That's awful, obviously, but something's just occurred to me: what do you think the relative rates are of students shooting up high schools versus adults shooting up their workplaces? I assume the latter's much more common, right?

I blame the Colorado Avalanche.

NYT article says "adult gunman", so not even a student??

I heard (uncomfirmed) on the tv that it was a parent of a student.

From the BBC site
The siege at a high school in the US state of Colorado, where a lone gunman was holding two female students hostage, has reportedly ended.

Unconfirmed reports say the gunman has died and one of his hostages has been injured.

The gunman was said to have claimed he was carrying explosives.

i don't know anything else about this incident beyond what's been said here - but i k1now enough to say with absolute assurance, this tragedy was caused by loopholes in gun laws.

Now it's saying

A gunman has died and a teenage girl has been critically injured after police stormed a high school in the US state of Colorado, authorities say.

The violent end to the siege at Platte Canyon High School came after the gunman reportedly threatened to harm the two girls he was holding hostage.

The injured girl was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. The other hostage was unharmed.

The gunman initially took six girls hostage, before releasing four of them.
