Yukon, for sure.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:00 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't been to the Maritimes yet, so Newfoundland.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:02 (nineteen years ago)

Manitoba

derrick (derrick), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:07 (nineteen years ago)

Quebec, which I've wanted to get to for years.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:09 (nineteen years ago)

Newfoundland isn't actually a Maritime province. Oh, and the Yukon is a territory. I'm just sayin'...

As for me, it's definitely Newfoundland. But if we're including territories... nope, still Newfoundland.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:18 (nineteen years ago)

I suppose Nunavut isn't a province. So maybe Newfoundland and Labrador.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 28 September 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i'll probably go for a maritime province--NS maybe... or the yukes.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

my plan is to do a cross Canadian trip via bus or train all the way to the Maritimes, then either head to NYC or Boston for a little then fly back.

Via Rail is the way to go. The bus is for drunks and skids.

So far no love for Canada's Drive Through Province, NB.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Uh... I think that would be Saskatchewan and that's what I'm putting my vote in for.
Because my cousin lives there and it's fun to say.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

i love NB! it reminds me of vancouver island in many ways, but it's definitely its own place. not as "pretty" as PEI, but beautiful in its own right.

i have still not been to saskatchewan - i'm kind of enamoured by it. and NWT/Yukon, for sure. (need one (1) boyfriend who likes adventure camping. or need gun.)

xpost!

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

If you are going to do Via Rail across Canada (and that train only goes like every three days) you'll want to get a "North America Pass" from Amtrak, which is actually cheaper than a cross-country Via Rail ticket!

This is where I say that Saskatchewan is completely awesome, although you all know I feel that way, so I probably don't need to say it. When I took the train home after my recent Toronto visit I ate dinner next to a nice woman, late 20s, who was moving to Calgary. "I'm from Regina, which is the capital of Saskatchewan", she said, and I said, "Oh, I know Regina." She was of course surprised I knew it, and especially that I had been there. Then she said she had been working (she was a nurse) in some small town in Sask, and I said, "which one?" and she said, "Estevan, it's..." and I said, "Oh, OK." And she said, "You've heard of it?" and I said, "Yes, but I haven't been there." I did not tell her about the map of Sask that I have hanging up in my bedroom.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 28 September 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorkton%2C_Saskatchewan :

The practise of cannibilism was a common practise in Yorkton since the early thirties. Thirty ceremonial women are chosen to have children that are sacrificed and eaten every christmas. These women are exempt from taxes and live on a government salary. Though the act of cannibilism has deteriorated there are still 5 children sacrificed yearly. The skulls of the children are on display in city hall and can be viewed from 10-5 weekly.

On the night of September 19, 2003, a spark from a discarded cigarette ignited a fire which led to the majority of West Broadway being burned to the ground. One man, who was in his home when flames engulfed his house, escaped through the fire, though he was left with very severe burns. Though he is seen very rarely, his appearance is unmistakable. He is known around town by the name of Burnt Barry.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 28 September 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

God I miss my homeland.
Whenever people say they live in "Eastvan" I keep hearing "Estevan" and I'm like, "NO WAY!" and they're like, "No way is right."

I'm working on a very special project right now, that might link me forever to the land that I love (and can't stand to live in). I'm very excited about it, last night I dreamed about it.

As for the question, it would have to be Newfoundland and Labrador (which is one province). Labrador, in particular, I think.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 28 September 2006 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yorktonpaws.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 28 September 2006 18:29 (nineteen years ago)

Alberta. I blame Gordon Lightfoot.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 28 September 2006 18:32 (nineteen years ago)

Am I really the first person to pick BC?

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 28 September 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 28 September 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

Blame Canadians.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 28 September 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I think I'm also more interested in the Labrador part, but I'd want to see both.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 28 September 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

Am I really the first person to pick BC?

yeah, y'all are crazy. BC seems like a dream land to me.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 28 September 2006 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

I've always wanted to do the cross-country trip via rail or even driving. It should happen in the not too distant future. But more specifically, I would love to hike the entire coast of Labrador. For now, though, I'm fairly content living next door to Quebec's eastern townships and consider that my second home. Must visit the hockey hall of fame too.

jim wentworth (wench), Thursday, 28 September 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

maybe we've all been to BC

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 28 September 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Thursday, 28 September 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

derrick (derrick), Friday, 29 September 2006 04:16 (nineteen years ago)

I've been to all the provinces, but didn't spend much time in BC (to be precise, only a picnic lunch a few years from the Alberta border, where my brothers made me laugh so hard I choked on a carrot and my mother gave me the Heimlich maneuver). I haven't been to any of the territories, though, and Nunavut has a cool name.

Maria (Maria), Friday, 29 September 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

a few years = a few yards, btw

Maria (Maria), Friday, 29 September 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

I have only just lately learned how to properly say IQUALUIT

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 29 September 2006 06:45 (nineteen years ago)

also, where is the PHOTO THREAD of your train voyage, Casuistry?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 29 September 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't it IQALUIT? Though I have no idea how to properly say it.

I took one photo this time, of the river as we crossed into Canada near Niagara. For whatever reason I didn't feel like taking photos in Toronto. Although perhaps at some point wedding photos will be leaked. The US leg looked the same as it did last time I went, so you can check my flickr for that.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 29 September 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Definitely Manitoba. A girl from my grade 6 class who I liked a lot moved there, and I nearly cried when Winnipeg lost the Jets. It sucked when the Nordiques left, but it felt like a crime against nature when the NHL left Manitoba.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 29 September 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

"Yukon, for sure."

Favourite Canadian PROVINCE. Sorry, the Yukon doesn't count. I actually really want to go there myself though.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 29 September 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

Alberta.. part of the motivation for this trip is to finally see Calgary and Edmonton.

0xDOX0RNUTX0RX0RSDABITFIELDXOR^0xDEADBEEFDEADBEEF00001 (donut), Friday, 29 September 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Watch Silver Streak instead.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 29 September 2006 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

Outer Canadia

timmy tannin (pompous), Saturday, 30 September 2006 01:55 (nineteen years ago)

If you don't drive across, though, I don't know if you'll get to stop and see the egg in Vegreville!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 30 September 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

I love this country. It would have to be a Maritime province like Nova Scotia or Newfoundland for me, too, since I've been everywhere else. Oh fuck... Quebec! I'll say Quebec.

David A. (Davant), Saturday, 30 September 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

And if we could include territories, I don't know how I'd pick between the Yukon, the NWT or Nunavut. Did you know there is only approx. 100,000 people living in all of the Territories combined?

David A. (Davant), Saturday, 30 September 2006 04:41 (nineteen years ago)

you could drive through quebec and then see the maritimes! totally good trip. i still haven't explored the quebec countryside is any respectable way - hopefully a day trip next wkend though, ooh, pretty.
