The unfunny one that looks like Charlie Busted: why?
The unfunny one that looks like one of the Proclaimers: why?

Ed Byrne should stick to shilling mobile phones.

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 13 October 2006 07:54 (nineteen years ago)

why would you watch this when 'the sopranos' is on, dom?

benrique (Enrique), Friday, 13 October 2006 07:55 (nineteen years ago)

possible the brain has been numbed to such an extent by the excrement that is extras and the nothing that is Mitchell and webb.

Ed (dali), Friday, 13 October 2006 08:00 (nineteen years ago)

it really is the weakest ass, cobbled together, ripped off from other things, excuse for a panel show i've ever seen.

QI might not be cutting edge but at least it's funny...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 13 October 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

why would you watch this when 'the sopranos' is on, dom?

That's probably why he's watching it. I can turn my telly off (and on).

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 13 October 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

oh! nancy banks-smith over here.

benrique (Enrique), Friday, 13 October 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not watching the Sopranos first run because one of my "let's discuss the Sopranos the day after" friends doesn't have freeview, so the rest of us are being forced to wait for it on C4. Git.

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

So yeah, no "AJ gets killed by an otter" spoilers plz.

two years pass...

is this a reserve league version of uk comedy panel shows?

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:32 (sixteen years ago)

HIGfY aside, it's all reserve league.

Oppositional Soup (Noodle Vague), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:33 (sixteen years ago)

i'd submit QI, off the top off my head. maybe they're the 'squad members' somewhere in between.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:35 (sixteen years ago)

cos i hate to break it to you, but i've seen this cunt brigstocke on HIGNFY at least once.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:36 (sixteen years ago)

I've enjoyed QI, having learned to ignore the existence of Alan Davies. HIGNfY more than most of these shows manages to be good even with bad guests. Most panel shows bring the odd lol tho, even Mock the Week.

Oppositional Soup (Noodle Vague), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:39 (sixteen years ago)

i know now why you cry accumulate suggest bans.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:43 (sixteen years ago)

I think I'm a sucker for panel shows like nothing else, I can enjoy Mock the Week even though I know that it's really utter shit. Couple of cheap laughs and I'm good. Although it's always annoying to be watching with friends and make a hilarious quip that's then repeated by one of the panelists you hate.

HIGNfY is one of the few I think is actually good, although only if you accept that is has nothing to do with satire any more. Very much not looking forward to the revolving cunt door that will be the Never Mind the Buzzcocks guest host spot.

Akon/Family (Merdeyeux), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:45 (sixteen years ago)

weirdest thing about russell howard is that you never see him laugh at the other guys jokes when they're doing the 'spin the wheel' bit, like he's actually terrified inside but then switches on when its his turn

modescalator (blueski), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:51 (sixteen years ago)

presumably they're all just standing there trying to remember which bit of which of their stand-up routines is relevant to that particular category?

Lovely and tender, like velvet. (Upt0eleven), Monday, 28 September 2009 10:59 (sixteen years ago)

weirdest thing about Hugh Dennis is that he gets work as a comedian

Ismael Klata, Monday, 28 September 2009 11:01 (sixteen years ago)

Do we have an opinion on Frankie Boyle?

pow! right in the kisser (suzy), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:01 (sixteen years ago)

I'm sure we have many opinions on Frankie Boyle, not sure which will turn out to be the right one.

(I like him.)

Michael Jones, Monday, 28 September 2009 11:02 (sixteen years ago)

very sharp; doesn't know where his boundaries lie (I mean in terms of being funny, not in terms of taste); awful, awful stand-up

Ismael Klata, Monday, 28 September 2009 11:04 (sixteen years ago)

He's the only person on this show that's ever funny, right?

There's also related funny from watching the runt G-list guest comedians try and get a word in edgeways when Boyle has half a standup set's worth of jokes queued up.

MPx4A, Monday, 28 September 2009 11:04 (sixteen years ago)

Xpost, wasn't responding to the awful stand-up bit.

MPx4A, Monday, 28 September 2009 11:05 (sixteen years ago)

Boyle was off the boil (...) on the last one i saw, it was v noticeable.

modescalator (blueski), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:05 (sixteen years ago)

i like stewart francis' corny oldskool one-liners and the way he tells them

its a shame they make hugh dennis do the stupid voiceover bit - does he actually score points for this?

modescalator (blueski), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:08 (sixteen years ago)

always assumed hugh dennis was just a pitied unacknowledged mcgann bastard child.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:09 (sixteen years ago)

Didn't Boyle recently get pissed off that someone called him a drunk when he's actually an alcoholic and dry for ten years?

David Mitchell, anyone?

Lovely and tender, like velvet. (Upt0eleven), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:09 (sixteen years ago)

Mitchell wasn't so good on this, don't think the format suits his style

modescalator (blueski), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:10 (sixteen years ago)

xpost Yeah, he's a teetotal vegetarian who went to uni at Sussex, whoever said he was drunk gets a gold star for stereotyping.

pow! right in the kisser (suzy), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:16 (sixteen years ago)

Did not know he had gone to Sussex despite their shoving the illustrious alumni list down our throat the whole time I was there.

I kinda like Mitchell's rants - they at least seem vaguely genuine and less scripted than some of the shite spouted by the rest.

Lovely and tender, like velvet. (Upt0eleven), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:24 (sixteen years ago)

I love Boyle and think his stand-up is pretty great actually. I had no idea he was a teetotal vegetarian!

*:--☆--:*:--☆:*:--☆--:*:--☆--: (ENBB), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

whoever said he was drunk gets a gold star for stereotyping

tbf Boyle does more 'Scots always drunk' zings than anyone

modescalator (blueski), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:33 (sixteen years ago)

maybe the cranky ex-alco is just a stereotype he's mining for material.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:38 (sixteen years ago)

don't know why mitchell turns up on this show, he's way above it. or maybe just different.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:38 (sixteen years ago)

Blueski, you're allowed to tell jokes about your own demographic.

I'll be rifling the index to see what he says about Sussex. Although I never met him there, he was legendarily funny as an undergrad, according to three friends of mine on his course: my ex who lived with a certain music writer and was in a game of RUN AWAY from one J D0llim0re, one gorgeous Italian-Swiss burlesque performer and one flapper-esque riot grrrl writer.

pow! right in the kisser (suzy), Monday, 28 September 2009 11:44 (sixteen years ago)

more Frankie Boyle facts: he doesn't fly and i walked passed him on Ingram Street in Glasgow a couple of months ago.

amarillo fat (jim), Monday, 28 September 2009 12:55 (sixteen years ago)

I really can't stand that short bald twat with the pointy beard.

chap, Monday, 28 September 2009 13:31 (sixteen years ago)

oh yeah that guy. smug glove puppet

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 13:33 (sixteen years ago)

you've got to have some admiration for someone bold enough to become a comedian despite not being funny and having the greatest lack of comic timing possible, no? No.

Akon/Family (Merdeyeux), Monday, 28 September 2009 14:39 (sixteen years ago)

you guys are making this show sound fascinating, am kicking myself for not watching it more than about 0.6 times.

this must be what FAIL is really like (ledge), Monday, 28 September 2009 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

still, in a country where al murray can get rich......

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Monday, 28 September 2009 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

everyone on this show is shit and completely unfunny

conrad, Monday, 28 September 2009 16:10 (sixteen years ago)

i watch this show and laugh at some of the things that are said

modescalator (blueski), Monday, 28 September 2009 16:10 (sixteen years ago)

because it's so rubbish, or what? i laugh at eastenders, for instance.
