Aww. You don't want a picture of my German Wirehaired Pointer then?

C J (C J), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know why this thread is making me laugh so hard!

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

(xp) Apparently not! My guess is that most breeds have already been covered so far.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

Suggestion: go to breeders' websites.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

Nope, sorry. Just a few of one particular fat beagle.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

Is it okay for people to feature in the pics if they're nude?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

My nude cocker spaniel is very disappointed that he's not eligible.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, Fake Tuomas.

Suggestion: go to breeders' websites.

Yeah, I dunno. This isn't really my project -- I'm just passing the request along -- but my guess is that the person who's doing it is hoping that people will happily donate their photos for free, which will obviate the need to license images from elsewhere.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

fat beagle pics will also be appreciated

(I may have neglected to mention that these would be used in an online reference source -- you would probably be credited.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

i like this one better, though:

I have a bad picture of a Staffordshire Terrier (they're just pitbulls, right?) I'm not sure if this is good enough, though. Her eyes are all reflective, and you can't see her legs.

molly d (mollyd), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

researching ur life (grady), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

omg american eskimo dog! cuet! so white!

i feel like this is a Fake Jaymc thread. it's not, i guess, but i feel like it is.

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

I think that first picture of the Shiba Inu is probably the closest to what we're looking for, composition-wise.

Rrrobyn, you know who I work for!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Are you dealing with copyright issues? i.e. can't just use random pictures on the internet?

molly d (mollyd), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

Yes.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

(This is for a major publishing company.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

Gotcha.

molly d (mollyd), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

haha, i know!
xpost
but, because does the avg person really take full body side-shots of their dogs? hey, well, maybe they do. and also i'm with dan - the thread just made me laugh too much for some reason.

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:33 (nineteen years ago)

full body shots:

although, alas, they are none of the above.

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

The problem with asking the internests at large, Jay, is that there's no telling what quality of dog will be shown in your pictures. There's a reason most reference photos of dogs are taken of breed champions...to capture certain desirable traits that only show up in "show quality" examples of each breed. Blah blah boring but true.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

Hint: for Finnish Spitz google "suomenpystykorva".

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

Otterhound:

researching ur life (grady), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

(xxp) Yeah. Well, I'm basically just forwarding a request that was sent from the head of the editorial department to the entire staff, so they don't seem to be too worried about using photos of employees' dogs. But I do see your point. Anyway, I don't have anything at stake here, just thought I could maybe get in good with the head honchos here if I was able to supply a couple of photos that worked.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

yepz.
xpost to laurel
i guess i mean full-body side-shots in the sense that the photo's composition highlights traits of the breed, is well lit, stuff like that. laurel makes the point well.

DOGSSZZ!
this is a thread about people's dogs, i think, now, right?

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 October 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

What about...

We've decided our Tracy must be mostly American Eskimo. She matches the breed in size, shape, tail curl, coat length and thickness, conformation, temperament -- everything except color.

i was looking thru the pics i used to take at the humane society but most are mutts or breeds you don't need. i think she was a staffordshire terrier though:

fat beagle wants hugs

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

try flickr. a lot of pictures of dogs on there and a lot of those are publish under creative commons licence. ie:

finnish spitz:
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=182930677&size=l
(licence requires you to credit the picture taker but you'd be doing that anyway, right?)

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

that dog looks evil.

Juulia (julesbdules), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

Somebody at the company next door brought their black lab to work today, so I got to play with him. He's out in the parking lot, trying to eat random things.

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

With the black lab staring at him in disbelief?

C J (C J), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

i'm glad there's a dog called Brussels Griffon
