Illegalise:

Haha fuck you.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

illegalise:
alcohol before 5pm

I'm kinda with this one. There was an article in the paper the other day about how the local authorities are considering making a bar in Oak Park open later than 6am. And the most quoted man in the story was this dude who actually shows up there at 6am every morning and starts drinking. The story seemed almost to be on his side. Um... gross.

this, however, is the crucial moment from the libertine's point of view (kenan), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

if you use your pure, unadulterated lungs to suck a little harder you might get ALL the fun out of the thread.

Outlaw:
....
-private transportation (at least within the M25, preferably all of England)

Does that include men in jodphurs on horseback?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Oops, my mistake. Private PETROL-BASED transportation. Bicycles, skateboards and horses are all still perfectly fine.

Going Through The Motions (kate), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

can anyone clarify the 24hr drinking thing?

Legalize:

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

Fucked if I know. There was all the hoo-ha about it, and the only practical upshot seems to be a few crappy bars being open till 1 or 2 at the weekend.

6am drinkers = market people and night shift workers. And alcholics.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

And people whose drugs from the night before haven't worn off yet. Kerazee!

legalise: weed

illegalise: booze

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

can anyone clarify the 24hr drinking thing?

It's in place. Establishments still have to apply for 'whatever' time they wish to open till though. we have a club in Warrington open till 6am every weekend.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

i always wondered what it felt like to be right!

well if you legalise it then there wouldn't be anymore of those speeches anywhere huh

Pot IS illegal.

"um...gross" should never be a reason for making a law, except when it comes to bad breath.

Also, shift workers OTM.

de-legalize:
private gun ownership
cell phone talking while driving (not illegal in my state)

BAH. You make me feel like a libertarian.

Coach Dave (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

year-round road construction
holding prisoners indefinitely without trial

Maria (Maria), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Chap OTM, although I never really know what "decriminalise" means - for me the distinction would be available at newsagents vs. available over the counter at Boots.

ledge (ledge), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

surely there are enough self-important pricks in the world without legalizing coke?

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Illegalise:
Hip op "music"
Atonality
Terrorism
-- Comstock Carabineri (copp...), October 23rd, 2006 9:22 AM. (nostudium) (link)

Right after we criminalize terrorism, we should outlaw murder and theft.

P.S. I said a hip hop, hippie to the hippie, the hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it to the bang bang boogie, say, up jump the boogie, to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat, DOOD!

Coach Dave (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

surely there are enough self-important pricks in the world without legalizing coke?

decriminalisation = de-glamourisation/de-romanticisation leading to ironic decrease in use, possibly (same goes for all illegal drugs)

;_; (blueski), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

legalise:
public nudity

criminalise:
public nudity again, eurgh that was a horrific mistake!

ledge (ledge), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

legalize:
coke

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

Right after we criminalize terrorism, we should outlaw murder and theft.

It already exists. Hip op murdered good music and is based on theft from real, talented musicians.

P.S. I said a hip hop, hippie to the hippie, the hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it to the bang bang boogie, say, up jump the boogie, to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat, DOOD!

I'm sorry, but I only speak English :)

Comstock Carabineri (nostudium), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

This no longer qualifies as a conversation.

Coach Dave (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

illegalise:
private transport with less than 35mpg efficiency (separate rules for commercial vehicles)
state funding of faith schools
prayer in state funded schools
(I'd like to say that churches/mosques/synagogues/religious buildings should come with an 18 certificate)
Driving your kids to school in urban areas

legalise
traffic lights that let bikes get off five seconds before busses and busses 5 seconds before other vehicles, particularly at major junctions
Compulsory cycle training for children
tax free bikes for all

Ed (dali), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

Ed those aren't really things you can 'legalise' as such, but OK.

;_; (blueski), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

I never really know what "decriminalise" means

In practical terms I doubt the drugs would be available commercially, you'd still have to buy from dealers. The crucial difference would be that people would no longer get banged up for carrying a couple of pills/wraps for their mates.

chap who would dare to welcome our new stingray masters (chap), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

Make available on prescription:
Heroin

What do you have to have to get that prescription because I think Ive got it?
