Saw the trailer before The Departed, it makes Sin City look like a brilliant work of art.

But Victor Davis Hanson likes it so it must be good. < / every right wing blogger fucknut ever >

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 October 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

You know that 'Viktor Davis' was the thinly disguised version of Dave Sim the Mr. Cererbus the Aardvark initially used as a mouthpiece for his astoundingly fucked-up theories about sex and religion, right?

i dunno, looks more interesting than sin city at least. but then again i'm a sucker for ancient-world settings.

nice use of NIN in the trailer.

This looks like a much better movie with a generic blood-spatter poster:

"THIS IS... SPAH-TA!!!!!"

milo z (mlp), Monday, 23 October 2006 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

given that his art is usually the best thing in any of his books, Frank Miller in general makes for horrible source material.

altho I confess I might see a Ronin movie (still far and away the most interesting thing he ever did, and even then its still loaded down with tired 80s-style mysogyny, racism, porno-violence)

I'm probably going to see this, unless the RT grade is 30-something or below. I'm intrigued by a war movie set in Classical times done all graphic novel-stylee

I predict painstakingly detailed jets of gushing blood

You probably wouldn't be, if you'd read the comic.

kingfish probably wouldn't be intrigued, I mean.

i read it. Still wanna see it.

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 23 October 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

ah but Zatoichi had Takeshi. also a number of inexplicable raining-while-the-sun-shines fight scenes. and a dance number!

(and a great mythology to play with)

Wow. I think the name for that is "glutton for punishment."

On a related subject, the Beowulf and Grendel movie was actually pretty good!

Wow. I think the name for that is "glutton for punishment."

thus my giving the qualifier upthread for it needing a certain RT threshold. if it sinks, it sinks.

yabbut crits went apeshit for "Sin City" and now it practically belongs on that completely forgotten movies thread, just two years later.

No way, 15-year old boys are still holding it down for Sin City. You can almost see Jessica Alba's tit(s)!

milo z (mlp), Monday, 23 October 2006 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

Them parenthases beg a question about J. Alba!

Abbott (Abbott), Monday, 23 October 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

Looks like 90 minutes of cutscene.

From Eva Green's wiki:

Additionally, she was initially approached for the female lead in Lars von Trier's controversial film Antichrist (2009). According to Trier, Green was positive about appearing in the film, but her agents refused to allow her. The unsuccessful casting attempt took two months of the film's pre-production process. Anglo-French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg was subsequently cast in the role.[40] Green later told she got along well with Trier, "but then we started talking about nudity and sex and so on. It got a bit too far... It was my dream to work with him, but it’s a shame it was on that film that it nearly happened. I’m sure I would have been trashed doing that film".[41]

Well hope you're not feeling so thrashed now :)
