A couple of days old but...

Video evidence.

The official transcript.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 October 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

that poor man, under attack from all those radical leftist reporters.

Still, Scott McClellan made it thru, what, 2-3 years of this? he's probably at home in his PJs maniacally yelling at the tube. "Who's laughing now, Tony? WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?! A HA HA HA HA HA HAH *koff koff koff hack*"

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 23 October 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

In other words, cut and run is now being augmented by "walk and talk."

Walk and Talk - too cute. That one's new to me.

Coach Dave (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Not from the same gaggle, but still, come on now:
Q Tony, it seems what you have is not "stay the course." Has anybody told the President he should stop calling it "stay the course" then?

MR. SNOW: I don't think he's used that term in a while.

Q Oh, yes, he has, repeatedly.

MR. SNOW: When?

Q Well, in August, because I wrote a story saying he didn't use it -- and I was quite sternly corrected.

MR. SNOW: No, he stopped using it.

Q Why would he stop using it?

MR. SNOW: Because it left the wrong impression about what was going on. And it allowed critics to say, well, here's an administration that's just embarked upon a policy and not looking at what the situation is, when, in fact, it's just the opposite. The President is determined not to leave Iraq short of victory, but he also understands that it's important to capture the dynamism of the efforts that have been ongoing to try to make Iraq more secure, and therefore, enhance the clarification -- or the greater precision.

Q Is the President responsible for the fact people think it's stay the course since he's, in fact, described it that way himself?

MR. SNOW: No.

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

shockin y'all

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

I welcome Dubya's many attempts to deliberately mangle "dynamism" in public

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

It's not private accounts, it's personal accounts. People who use private are filthy propogandists. We never said private. People who say we said private are filthy liars.

It's not stay the course, it's adapt and win...

Have you ever been in a conversation with a hard-core Republican and used their old terminology? They get REALLY angry. I've experienced this with family members. It's unnerving.

Coach Dave (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Do tell, I'm actually interested. (Do they acknowledge using it at one point? If directly confronted with evidence, do they spazz?)

In days like this it's nice to know my folks are not hyperpartisan.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

nine months pass...

He sorta announced that he's leaving before the end of the term.

jeez, his time in the WH and sickness has aged him.

kingfish, Friday, 17 August 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

he had cancer you fucking shitbag

Mr. Que, Friday, 17 August 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks for the comment. I didn't know what he looked like now.

kingfish, Friday, 17 August 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno, he may have been the most articulate and self-deprecating guy hired for the most awful, thankless federal job ever. Out of all the cronies, douchebags, and turds hired by the Bush administration, I can't dislike Snow.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 18 August 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

Gates is probably the only guy i would offer sympathy for. Snow was way too happy to voice the most decrepit shit.

kingfish, Saturday, 18 August 2007 01:31 (eighteen years ago)

Gates, the Iran-Contra prestigitator? Realpolitik hack.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 18 August 2007 01:36 (eighteen years ago)

kingfish, Saturday, 18 August 2007 01:51 (eighteen years ago)

No, I'm pretty shocked at how he's been aged by cancer, too. It's really awful. But I just read in CNN that he said his situation has evened out, so I don't feel as bad for thinking he's a d-bag for his smarmy, condescending attitude to the press corps. Give Helen Thomas her seat back, assholes.

But honestly, if the tables were turned, you know there'd be a Coulter saying the White House is using this person's cancer as a shield from criticism.

jposnan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

Out of all the cronies, douchebags, and turds hired by the Bush administration, I can't dislike Snow.

Certainly a thankless job, but I can't really feel sorry for anyone who accepts the position of official apologist for the Bush administration.

Z S, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:38 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the things he says in press conferences never fail to amaze me. It makes me think he must be brainwashed to be able to come up with completely illogical stuff like that just off the cuff without having rehearsed his line for every possible question. I really don't know how he does it. I don't feel sorry for him and I think he can burn in hell with the rest of the trash running this country, including Dems in Congress that roll over like little obedient dogs at this administration.

Bimble, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:56 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the things he says in press conferences never fail to amaze me. It makes me think he must be brainwashed to be able to come up with completely illogical stuff like that just off the cuff without having rehearsed his line for every possible question

Right, but I thought the same of Scott McLennan, Ari Fleischer, "Mack" McLarty, Dee Dee Myers, George Stephanopoulos, Larry Speakes, and Marlin Fitzwater. This is what they get paid to do!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 18 August 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

Right, but I thought the same of Scott McLennan, Ari Fleischer, "Mack" McLarty, Dee Dee Myers, George Stephanopoulos, Larry Speakes, and Marlin Fitzwater. This is what they get paid to do!

Completely hypothetical situation that would never happen: If I were offered the position...I wouldn't accept it! Babykiller, nursing home arsonist, rainforest logger, evil genius assistant, White House press secretary - all jobs I could never accept.

Z S, Saturday, 18 August 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I think you may be missing the point, here, Alfred. I mean...it's not like it's the only job he could possibly have gotten. He had, and has a choice. Otherwise he wouldn't be leaving. A man who would choose to defend the actions of the Bush administration is as evil as the rest of them.

Bimble, Saturday, 18 August 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

Towards the end, I kind of felt sorry for Scott McLellan just because he looked so overwhelmed and just not that bright. Of course, it was his choice, and WH Press Sec. has basically the job of a propagandist, but he had the demeanor a little kid who'd been sent to the principal's office. Snow has kept the same condescending, paternalistic derision he had on the first day of the job.

Plus, it looked like McLellan was the only person laughing at Colbert's WH Correspondents Dinner. Like he didn't know any better.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/08/31/tony-snow-resigns/index.html?hp

As Tony Snow, the White House press secretary had indicated earlier, he has decided to resign his post with the Bush administration, effective Sept. 14.

Mr. Snow, who has been battling a recurrence of colon cancer and just finished a lengthy set of chemotherapy treatments, had said that he intended to leave before the end of President Bush’s second term. In recent interviews, he said he would depart for financial, not health reasons.

The former journalist with Fox News who had a nationally syndicated talk show received a salary of nearly $170,000 as White House press secretary, far less than his cable show earnings.

He recently told Hugh Hewitt: “I’m not going to be able to go the distance, but that’s primarily for financial reasons,” Mr. Snow said. “I’ve told people when my money runs out, then I’ve got to go.”

In a totally thankless job, he was witty and self-deprecating. He made Scott McLennan look especially bad.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 12 July 2008 12:17 (seventeen years ago)

I had no use for him, but RIP.

Frogman Henry, Saturday, 12 July 2008 13:00 (seventeen years ago)

And somehow I'm thinking there's a sigh of relief at the White House at one less tell-all book to be published.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 12 July 2008 14:37 (seventeen years ago)

Hahahaha Ned!, you have accidentally & retroactively created the Greatest Thread Title ever.

Hadrian VIII, Saturday, 12 July 2008 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

he was witty and self-deprecating

well that's what matters

RIP

gabbneb, Saturday, 12 July 2008 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

Too bad, RIP

He was always a fun interview on The Daily Show, because it was obvious he and Stewart respected each other and brought their a-games to the table.

Even when he was feeding you a huge pile of the administration's bullshit, you still kind of wished him well.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 12 July 2008 14:58 (seventeen years ago)

I really regret the flippant post just now, though I think there's a definite grain of truth to what I describe. On a larger front, as anyone who has posted or read on ILX's own cancer thread can appreciate, there's a family who just lost a loved one to something horrible and lingering. I would not want to be in their shoes.

Snow was a far more talented PS than McClellan, easy. I can't say I had much respect for his politics, but I had great respect for him as an entertainer.
