Lyndon LaRouche followers - Classics or Duds?

A dialogue on campus today:

Random LaRouche guy (thrusting me a flyer): We've gotta stop Dick Cheney!
Me (walking quickly past him): We sure do.
LaRouche guy: Don't want to stop Cheney?
Me: I don't want to help LaRouche.
LaRouche guy (dejected voice): Oh, ok...maybe next time...

The LaRouche people are on campus every Tuesday. I have some friends who argue with them, and they say it can be very entertaining. I just get tired of being harassed by them every time I walk back to my dorm (shouting is not a great method of political persuasion for me).

So what do you think? Are these people annoying or amusing?

Some talk here:

Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr. - the only man qualified to be US President, or a sad old man with more money than sense?

But a thread just about their followers is all right by me.

To quote my key post from that thread:

He's had a recruiting team of about four or so people on campus now for about four months. Spectacular failures. One time my coworkers and I were going to lunch and one of the LaRouche folks was standing on the other's shoulders and sorta shouted to me, "Don't pretend you don't notice us!"

In a 1978 article in the NCLC publication New Solidarity, LaRouche wrote, "Israel is ruled from London as a zombie-nation" and that Zionism is "the state of selective psychosis through which London manipulates most of the international Jewry." In describing Zionism as "a hideous cult," LaRouche went on to allege that the Nazis "only" killed "about a million and a half" Jews and asserted that Hitler had been put into power largely with the backing of certain Jewish financial interests.
A November 1997 article in the organization's journal, The New Federalist, claimed that the 'British got rid of Rabin -- shot to death two years ago today -- and brought in Netanyahu, whose assignment has been to return the region to a state of war... Netanyahu is gunning for nuclear war [but in] order to carry out this British game plan... [he] must first purge several leading figures in the intelligence and military establishment who consider such a war suicidal'.

Finally, LaRouche declared that there was "a hard kernel of truth" in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a notorious anti-Semitic forgery promulgated at the turn of the century by the Czarist secret police.

Jan 1974 Lyndon LaRouche: "How do you brainwash somebody? Well, first of all, you generally pull a psychological profile or develop one in a preliminary period. You find every vulnerability of that person from a psychoanalytic standpoint. Now the next thing you do is you build them up for fear in males and females of homsexuality, aim them for an anal identification with anal sex, their mouth is identified with fellatio. Their mouth is identified only with the penis -- that kind of sex, and with woman. Womanhood is the fellatio of the male mouth in a man who has been brainwashed by the KGB; that is, sucking penises... "First they say your father was nothing, your father was a queer, your father was a woman. They play very strongly on homosexual fears. It doesn't work on women. . . .Most women are to a large degree homosexual in this society. The relationship between daughter and mother is homosexual, so the thing is not much of a threat. But to young men it is generally a grave threat... fears about masturbation... They say, 'See that sheep? Wouldn't you like to do that to a sheep?' It's not the pain that brainwashes, it's forcing the victim to run away from the pain by taking the bait of degrading himself. This persistant pattern of self-degradation, self-humiliation, is what essentially accomplishes the brainwashing. Any of you who say this is a hoax -- you're cruds! You're subhuman! You're not serious. The human race is at stake. Either we win, or there is no humanity. That's the way she's cut."

Unbelievable duds, combining the worst aspects of Libertarians and Moonies.

They used to be camped out in front of Amoeba Records for awhile.

the LaRouchies are a sidewalk menace on upper broadway in Manhattan, they set up alongside the sidewalk vendors by Urban Outfitters @72nd. Creepy ex-hippie guys in their 50s who harangue pedestrians with creepy "humorous" come-ons about Bush and Cheney being insane.

LaRouche had a particular dislike for Henry Kissinger and went all out to try to get him. To name a few things he did to annoy Kissinger: LaRouche circulated a leaflet entitled, "Kissinger: The Politics of Faggotry" and had his followers harass Kissinger in Europe with "schoolboy pranks, crank calls," and so forth. He also disseminated an article called "How Henry Kissinger Will Be Destroyed" to Kissinger's audience when he spoke at Georgetown University.

Yeah, Georgetown's had some recent problems with the LaRouche people. They're not allowed on campus grounds, so they always stand right outside the gates. Last week their pamphlets and flyers were found strewn all over the floors of several classrooms - it seems that one of the LaRouche followers walked into a campus building and just started littering the stuff everywhere.

LaRouche had a particular dislike for Henry Kissinger and went all out to try to get him.

I initially misread this sentence as working the other way around (Kissinger going after LaRouche), which seemed like a great story in the making.

As Kesha told the Galveston Daily News last night, when a reporter asked if she expected support from the Democratic Party in the fall election, “I am leading a war against the British Empire. I'm not worried about what Democratic Party hacks say or do.”
