A new survey has confirmed the belief of many men - that women are the grumpier sex first thing in the morning. They are not only grumpier more often, they also stay in a bad mood for longer. The survey by the Sleep Council found 24% of men said they never woke up grumpy, as opposed to only 14% of women.
It also found 13% of women stayed in a bad mood for two to four hours, compared to 10% of men.
Just in the morning??

Nearly three in 10 women blamed their partner's snoring for their sleep problems, but only 13% of men said their partner's snoring was to blame.

And what does "grumpy" mean anyway?? Some people just need to wake up properly in the morning before doing anything too involved, like maintaining a conversation. Although lack of sleep and time pressure can make one feel hostile.

The only thing other than lack of sleep (only an occasional problem for me) that makes me grumpy is being too hot.

And it seems that men are generally more grumpy overall. The stereotype of the grumpy old man didn't come from nowhere. But who cares about the gender war really? Some people are grumpy and others are not.

Also I'm basically disoriented like 99% of the day so I am not really grumpy in the mornings.

The basic message is, if you're not feeling or looking your best, you may not be getting a good night's sleep and, if it's 10 years old or more, that could be your bed's fault.
We have a number of helpful free consumer leaflets offering advice on buying a new bed; how to get a good night's sleep; and a good night guide for children.
We also work hard to expand our knowledge, carrying out or sponsoring research or surveys into people's sleeping habits or attitudes.
The Sleep Council is a non-profit organisation, limited by guarantee and funded by bed manufacturers, retailers and suppliers.
