I'm supposed to be making a poster using Microsoft Word comprising of pieces of a broken jigsaw with text inside each piece. Any ideas on the best way of doing this?

Is there a reason you have to do it in Word?

Probably not.

(No reason at all for it to be in Word, except that's what I have on my computer).

Paintbox.

There's a four-piece jigsaw puzzle in the Word Clipart which can be ungrouped and broken apart, you could then put a text box with no fill over the top of each piece?

Nice one. Got that to work. For some reason I couldn't on my previous attempt. Thanks all.

How do I turn off the spelling/grammar check?
I use Word 2007 at home and Word 2010 at work. Most of what I write is lesson materials to use when teaching English (to foreign students). Because of this I'm often just writing parts of sentences or phrases, rather than complete sentences, and Word keeps underlining most of it in green saying 'fragment - ignore once?'. I can ask it to ignore the fragment on the computer that I'm writing the document on, but when I then reopen the file on the computer in the classroom all the green underlining is back again. This is a problem because I have to project the file onto a smartboard. Also it's very time-consuming telling it to ignore virtually everything I've typed. On top of that, I frequently make files of students' written errors which I project and get them to try to correct - obviously I don't want all the spelling errors underlined in red because this gives away the answers.

Anybody?
― Striking Minors (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 24 February 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)
On my version, it's Word Options > Proofing..

On mine, it's Tools, Options, Spelling & Grammar and untick the boxes. There's also a little icon of an open book at the bottom of the screen which you can right-click to turn it off.

I can't seem to find anything called 'WordOptions' or 'Tools' on the version I'm using at home (the 2007 one). I've got a 'Proofing' section, but all it does is let me carry out a spellcheck (which is precisely what I don't want to do) - it doesn't give any option to turn it off.

big button top left, then bottom right in the menu it pops up.
idk why they got rid of all the usual menu options that people understood perfectly well.

Thanks - found it. What about on Word 2010 (which I've got at work) - iirc that doesn't have the big button top left?

For 2010, it's File > Options > Proofing and then untick boxes about spelling/grammar.

Hey guys! HELP!
My coworker just sent me a list I asked him for however he has presented the list in a table in Microsoft Word.
Now I'm having to cut the table text out of each row to make a normal bulleted list. There are A LOT of rows.
Is there any way to delete the table itself without deleting the table text?
I thought about importing it to excel and merging but I guess that would only leave the text from the first row right?

I don't know if there's a way to delete the table as you asked, but you should be able to cut out all of the text at once:
Select and copy all the table text. Paste into a text file, then copy and paste everything back into Word. You should end up with neat sentences that can then be made into a bulleted list.

Nevermind, I just worked it out. In case anyone ever needs to do this:
Select table, select the table. This make the Table Tools Layout tab appear. Click the Layout tab and select Convert to Text. A little popup will appear. Select one of an option (paragraph marks, commas, tabs) to separate the text currently in any columns you may have in the table.
Click OK and YAY! Saved myself 3+ hours of work!

oooooh. Thats good too. I always forget notepad :(
Guys, help. Does anyone know where I can download a legit demo version of Office 2010? Short story: I had 2010 installed, my hard drive crashed, I now discover that Microsoft apparently no longer has a download for this anywhere on their site. Which, okay, yes, I'm a cheap-ass and should have upgraded but whatever. I've found it on some t0rrent sites but I don't trust them to not destroy my computer. Help. Please, help!

I'm looking for someone who can fix a couple of formatting glitches with a manuscript. They involve page numbering. If you know what you're doing (I don't), I think you could fix the problem in under 10 minutes. I'd e-mail you the file and describe the problem.
