Veteran actor Franklyn dies at 80

Franklyn appeared on the BBC's What's My Line in 1973
Veteran actor William Franklyn, best-remembered as the voice of the "Schhh... You Know Who" Schweppes adverts, has died aged 80.
Franklyn died after a long battle with prostate cancer, his family said.

His 50-year career encompassed TV, radio, film and stage, appearing in episodes of The Avengers and The Scarlet Pimpernel among many others.

(Are we still allowed these?)

Maybe we should have a Rolling RIP Thread (or does that sound too happy?)

it occurred to me too, for people who most people here would not have heard of or really cared about in general (e.g. this guy)

Or even a "Dead Board"?

Yeah, I wanted to start a "Trevor Berbick is dead" thread, but what's the point?

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

You mean he's going to come back?

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I wanted to start a "Trevor Berbick is dead" thread,

Me too but certain people would just have moaned.

Sadly my one lasting impression of Berbick is his comedy knockout at the hands of Mike Tyson.

fwiw I don't think anyone would complain about a Berbick thread - his murder is a rather newsworthy event.

How about Don Storer, the drummer from Lord Rockingham's XI ("Hoots Mon!"). He just died recently too but it seems pointless to RIP the guy. The Pip Pyle RIP thread got zero response so what hope was there for Don?

Me too but certain people would just have moaned.

Who?

William Franklyn was one of those people who I loved to watch when I was a kid. Character actors are the coolest. I remember loving Masterspy too, even tho it was probly a bit rubbish, really.

masterspy roxored!

Yeah!

I liked it when he poured his bad drink into the parrot cage and the parrot collapsed (he looked up and went 'squawk' just to show he wasn't actually dead. The parrot, I mean)

Whoa, just the idea of a Schweppes ad is startling. I just got cable and I'm amazed they show ads for liquor, except ads for Bailey's which is like watching an ad for chocolate milk.
