kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 17 November 2006 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

This Greta Garbo film from the 30s called Queen Christina. It's hysterical. I think it's very slightly tongue in cheek, but I don't think it was made to elicit the levels of laughter coming from the audience I watched it with.

Showgirls is pretty intentional, kingfish.

the audience you watched Queen Christina with sounds like a typical NYC Film Forum audience, ie, I usually want to leave and pump poison gas into the theater.

Carla Tate: Have you ever done it before?
Daniel McMann: Well, yeah, kind of. You see the guys at work, they chipped in and they found this girl and she had a reputation. There was a lot of kissing and hugging and a lot of rubbing, and I kind of finished before I was supposed to. You have to be a guy to understand that.

I'm still not convinced that Rosie movie was unintentionally funny.

Which reminds me of an unintentionally funny scene from Short Cuts where Andie Macdowell briliantly says to Lyle Lovette "Gaw Dame Yew" three or four times in an uninspired display of anger.

Scarface OTM, just for the "Push It to the Limit" montage alone.

I fucking hate Scarface. I don't understand how everyone thinks it's so great. It's just like Staying Alive, but with guns and no dancing.

That one.

maria b (maria b), Saturday, 18 November 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

what a great thread.

The Hours. I know, it's a serious, depressing movie, but the actresses' performances are OUTRAGEOUS

it's just, those three actresses, in a studio together, with allll their little quirks and affectations emphasized by the seriousness of the film

too much for me. i've found a few friends who can relate. hilarious.

Ramzi Awn (rra123), Sunday, 19 November 2006 01:58 (nineteen years ago)

although i think the movie is pretty damn good. it's pretty damn good and hilarious at the same time.
