Tim Allen tops Mamet's 'Redbelt'
Ejiofor co-stars in Sony's martial arts drama

latebloomer, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

hey you guys rebecca pidgeon is in this one!

jhøshea, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

I know - everything about it says "WAHT?!"

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 00:56 (nineteen years ago)

yeah rebecca pidgeon in a mamet flick wtf

latebloomer, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

next thing you know he'll start writing wordy flicks with a lot of swearing

latebloomer, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

Tim Allen seems like one of those guys, like Ed O'Neill and Bob Saget, who got a lucky break as a sit-com actor but can do other stuff. Still, Mamet and kung fu sounds a little stilted.

Eazy, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 03:16 (nineteen years ago)

Tim Allen seems nothing like those guys.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

Mamet and kung fu sounds a little stilted

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 03:26 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, Mamet has casted Ed O'Neill before: in The Spanish Prisoner.

jaymc, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 03:58 (nineteen years ago)

Stilted kung-fu could be awesome

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:06 (nineteen years ago)

Ed O'Neil: master thespian / solid character actor
Bob Saget: dirty old man
Tim Allen: coke dealer

Chiwetel Ejiofor: MONEY

I am very very surprised that Mamet's using Ricky Jay AND David Paymer AND Joe Mantegna AND Rebecca Pidgeon.

David R., Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

I hope William H. Macy is the gaffer.

David R., Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

Mamet is like filmo Bendis.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:41 (nineteen years ago)

THAT'S WHY THEY CALL IT MONEY

David R., Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:43 (nineteen years ago)

Ejiofor has been training in London with members of the Gracie family, the renowned Brazilian fighting clan.

I guess they must be renowned in other circles than mine, but I'm intrigued.

s1ocki, Friday, 28 March 2008 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

Mamet? Tim Allen? Ricky Jay? Chuck Lidell?

David R., Friday, 28 March 2008 18:09 (eighteen years ago)

mamet

s1ocki, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

should i ask him if he ever considered going under the name david manmeat?

s1ocki, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

first question

David R., Friday, 28 March 2008 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

ask him about our generation's greatest philosopher thomas sowell

max, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

slocks tho seriously can you just ask him a ton of shit about ronin

max, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

There's a profile of Mamet in the current GQ, which tends to do profiles of folks who have some kind of publicity obligation but hate interviews, so they barely say anything and get a nice portrait photograph out of it (see DeNiro, Damon, etc.).

Eazy, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

I'd be curious to know what Mamet thinks of Neil LaBute. Protege or ripoff?

Eazy, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

what does he think of the wicker man remake

latebloomer, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

be so tempted to. i'm gonna butter him up by asking about "on directing film" which is actually a pretty good book even though it's more like "a really tendentious approach to writing screenplays" than anything else. still it's helpful.

s1ocki, Friday, 28 March 2008 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

After seeing this, I want to see Tim Allen tackle Glengarry or Speed-The-Plow. He does just fine.

Good to see Mamet break his rule that every shot must be static. Big step up for him as a director, though the fights could still use a little more ooph.

That main guy, he's great.

Tim Allen, he's fine.

Mantegna, Ricky Jay, they get their good lines.

Eazy, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

s1ocki how did the interview go?

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

this interview was pretty interesting: http://www.kcrw.com/etc/programs/tt/tt080430david_mamet

about five different people have recommended me his directing book, and none of them were rebecca pidgeon.

caek, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

p.s. me -> Rebecca Pidgeon -> Yorgo Constantine -> Kevin Bacon

/suzy

caek, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

filmwise, will never top Things Change

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

hey you guys rebecca pidgeon is in this one!
-- jhøshea, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 00:37 (11 months ago)

still roffling

gff, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

i liked this movie a lot, despite the parts that didn't make sense and the semi-corny ending.

Jordan, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

caek i'd recommend "his" book about acting, big-time

http://www.amazon.com/Practical-Handbook-Actor-Melissa-Bruder/dp/0394744128

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

thanks! I will try to pick up a copy of that. I'm directing for the first time this summer (just a little one act about watergate) and haven't really figured out how to work with real actors.

caek, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

this was great until the last five minutes.

Simon H., Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

why would everybody go to such ridic lengths to get chiwetel to compete, anyway? it's not like he had a recognizable name that would sell tickets or anything.

Jordan, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

btw, i couldn't stop thinking of emily mortimer as jack donaughey's 30 Rock fiancee. "my bones!"

Jordan, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

I had that in lars and the real girl. Does she do an American accent in this?

caek, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

yep

Jordan, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 15:03 (eighteen years ago)
