Where (and when) should I take my next holiday?

"In Cambodia."

Okay, obligatory joke out of the way.

I haven't really had any time off since December, so sooner rather than later. One week or two, either way. Ideas that I have been tempting me for a while:
- Japan (prefer to go in July or August, so I can climb Mt. Fuji)
- Cuba (wrong season?)
- Peru (wrong season? for different reason)
- Australia (also wrong season, feels kind of September-y to me for some reason)

Ok, go!

Cambodia isn't such a bad idea, you know... although it's getting into the wet season.

Cuba is getting towards hurricane season, I think.

aldo is right. Cambodia right now really isn't a significantly worse choice than Peru. Plus its way cheaper.

Cambodia has nicer accommodation than three of your choices. And much cheaper than the other one.

Japan's quite expensive but GREBT. I'll be going in about a week and a half. You can do it cheap, but it's harder. Also, keep in mind that (if you're outside the big cities), you'll be on your own as English is not spoken that much. I mean, it isn't in Tokyo either (well, not fluently), but you can at least read the names of places in Romaji on underground boards. ;-)

(The Cambodia thing was a joke - I assumed a get a bunch of snarky replies. Sorry for underestimating the hivemind.)

Have been warned about the English issue (and the expense), and definitely plan would plan to travel outside Tokyo.

eighteen years pass...

"When British friends Joanne Sheppard, 60, and Jane Thorp, 61, began planning a trip together, they settled on Praia da Luz partly for that reason. “When we decided to go on holiday, I said I would like to see the place where Madeleine went missing and I’d like to sit and see the scope of the area so we could get a feel of various routes where maybe Gerry McCann and Kate walked,” Sheppard said.

The pair were outside the Ocean Club on Thursday morning to check if “anyone was milling around” the McCann apartment while German and Portuguese police were scouring scrubland and abandoned buildings a mile away in Atalaia, near Lagos, which was once home to a farming community. They had already spent hours at the tapas restaurant on Tuesday and had made plans to return."
