oh hey so i have to make this store which is on the internets and it's not like a guy really wants to fucking like code some ups or whatever interface himself (not that he knows how to really'd be hiring someone for a lot of it) so it seems one of these ecommerce packages would be the way to go but there's so many of them miva etc and they all seem so dire so which to choose fuck - has anyone have any experience with these shits?

PayPal is pretty easy to use, and you can let them do however much you want: The whole shopping cart or just the chargeout. Their various services have a bunch of APIs, from Java libraries to pure HTTP. You can do recurring billing with PayFlo Pro, and you can catch receipts with instant payment notification. The best part is that you don't have to store CCs locally.
