The most devastating conclusion that I reached this morning, however, was that Casey did indeed die for nothing. His precious lifeblood drained out in a country far away from his family who loves him, killed by his own country which is beholden to and run by a war machine that even controls what we think. I have tried every since he died to make his sacrifice meaningful. Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives. It is so painful to me to know that I bought into this system for so many years and Casey paid the price for that allegiance. I failed my boy and that hurts the most.

They are representative stand-ins for dumbass American obsessions, particularly since some of you smart folx are interested in them.
Anyway, she's right; sort of a draft, nothing is going to foment an insurrection vs the two war parties.

― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

I love how "retires" implies that she was ever hired for the job.
Good riddance, moonbat.
― Dandy Don Weiner, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:16 (nineteen years ago)
the term "retire" does not apply exclusively to employment y'know
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:18 (nineteen years ago)
But still.
― Dandy Don Weiner, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:19 (nineteen years ago)
anyway, the movement is way better with her retirement.
― Dandy Don Weiner, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:20 (nineteen years ago)
it's a good thing someone starts saying the obvious: that soldiers can, and do, die for nothing. next step: start calling the lives lost in Iraq "wasted".
― Jeb, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:20 (nineteen years ago)
maybe now that she's retired YOU can speak for the movement dandy
xpost

― deej, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:22 (nineteen years ago)
I wouldn't be a good speaker of the movement, bro.
― Dandy Don Weiner, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:25 (nineteen years ago)
I was just a little put off that you seemed to be doing exactly that when you declared that "The Movement" was better off without her.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:32 (nineteen years ago)
("The Movement" in scare quotes only because we can't forget it's a confluence of movements with a variety of opinions, ideologies and goals.)
It's better off without her because she's a dipshit.
― Dandy Don Weiner, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:37 (nineteen years ago)
funny how nobody ever says the pro-war camp is better off without Rummy because he was a dipshit
it could be because everybody in the administration is a dipshit, though
