The thread where we confess to being suckered by clever product design and marketing

I bought a box of these on impulse the other night
[/img]http://candyaddict.com/blog/candy_pictures/chocolate_dipped_altoids.jpg[/img]

Maybe 30-40 chocolate covered cinnamon mints for like $2.50, but the box is so damned attractive, and I think my blood sugar was low.. I'm not even sure if they tasted good - one minute I'd think "what an interesting flavor" and the next minute I'd be like "ew, chocolate covered tic-tac." Even there I was totally falling for the "curious" schtick.

when i was twelve my friend and i saved up and bought the superslicer using his mother's credit card.

it was awesome but neither of us cooked very much. we used the juicer sometimes though. for lemonade.

Gukbe, Friday, 22 June 2007 23:51 (eighteen years ago)

actually, i was younger than that come to think of it. either way.

I tried smoking Lucky Strikes for a little while just because I love the package/logo.

milo z, Friday, 22 June 2007 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

i started smoking full start because of the logo! well, i bought them from a vending machine on the street in japan, and a few weeks later actually smoked one.

Gukbe, Friday, 22 June 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

i cant deal with those altoids as they are not chewy, i don't know what to do with them. biting down on an altoid is gross

I remember when the CHUG line came out, I thought "this is a pathetic marketing scheme", and I think I still wound up buying more milk/chocolate milk to drink once it was introduced than I had before.

Gukbe, Saturday, 23 June 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

Wow is that what Worcester sauce looks like in the US?? There's none of that paper bag shit here.

My worst job ever was tightening the lids on Worcester sauce bottles at Lea & Perrins, blistered my hands to fuck.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 June 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

you know whats really fucking good is that dove dark chocolate milk which looks exactly like the runs

deeznuts, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:06 (eighteen years ago)

75% of the appeal of lea and perrins is the paper bag shit. it gives it class.

Gukbe, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:12 (eighteen years ago)

I worked at Lea & Perrins for a week while they changed from glass to plastic bottles, the machine wouldn't tighten the lids properly so we had to tighten them by hand. Put me off the stuff for about 2 years, the whole place stank of it.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

I think you could take anything that hadn't been covered in fine dark chocolate before and cover it in fine dark chocolate and I'd be enticed to try it.

Hurting 2, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:35 (eighteen years ago)

If Apple made, say, watches and clock radios and lamps, I might buy them.

wanko ergo sum, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

So weird to see someone mention Carling Black Label on this thread, although we don't have those bottles!

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:42 (eighteen years ago)

if apple made an iBazooka i would buy it

scott seward, Saturday, 23 June 2007 03:09 (eighteen years ago)

oh and i used to drink this cheap whiskey in high school called Wilson's simply because their catch phrase was "That's all!". i thought it was kinda self-defeating and that fit my mood at the time.

scott seward, Saturday, 23 June 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

xpost did you cry MORE! MORE! MORE!?

scott seward, Saturday, 23 June 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)

i just thought it was a bizarre slogan. kinda like putting "sorry!" on your bottle. "we wish you could afford better whiskey too! good luck!"

scott seward, Saturday, 23 June 2007 03:14 (eighteen years ago)

i think the rolling stones drank nothing but rebel yell for awhile. cuz they are down home.

I'm a sucker for booze labels. When I'm out I always choose Hendricks gin:

Not the real Village People, Saturday, 23 June 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

I buy and use this all the time but it has no effect on my taste buds.

[pic of lea and perrins bottle]

Maybe you need a taste bud transplant. Besides its being flavorful, you should at least get a kick in the taste buds from the sodium bomb at the very least!

Bill Magill, Thursday, 29 October 2009 18:13 (sixteen years ago)

this week I have bought some wine just because it had a penguin on the bottle (the only bottle neither of us have been able to make it through a single glass of, went down the sink, but on the back it said that like 0.1% of the price went to a penguin charity, so that's ok then, uhh) and some exxxpensive white chocolate because it had a white tiger on the packaging (was v. delicious but at twice the price of even the other fancy gourmet organic snob-chocolate I should not be allowed to buy it again)

market: targeted

it looks much cooler in real life because the bottle looks glossy black so you feel like you should belong to the nihilist toe cutting club when you buy it
