I just don't rate the Whales. I tried listening to their music years ago when they were all the rage, but their acoustic minimal easy listening eeeooooooowwwww sounds don't do it for me at all.
I tried listening to some of their more recent stuff, but it's just the same! How can they get away with releasing albums with the same lyrics, abslutely no deviation from the eeeeooooowwww of the earlier years?
I just don't get it. It's not relaxing. It's distressing.
Any fans?

The actual great thing about whale song is that it sounds all haunting and mysterious, when it actually means "Hello baby, hot stuff comin' your way!"
Whales have kinda sucked ever since they signed to a major, it forced them to water down their sound. If you listen to their early demos, there's a lots of ooooeeeewwws to balance the eeeooowwwws, plus an occasional glockenspiel.

I guess some of the early LPs on Atlantic are kinda okay, but ever since Enya went solo they should've just called it quits.

That was certainly an acrimonious split.

Then you'd just get 100,000 twats on messageboards trying to claim he'd done it first and was trying to revolutionise butchery.
― aldo, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
The same 100,000 twats would then pay $80 for a slice or it, while everyone else went LOL SUCKERS and stole a free jpg of it off the internet.
― aldo, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)
the 80 dollar slice would have special, um, something.
― darraghmac, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)
Then the 100,000 twats who had paid for the $80 slice would point out that the jpg was compressed to fuck, and taken at far too low a resolution, so you couldn't actually see it properly anyway and it was virtually useless.

I figured (correctly) that this wouldn't be a Rheostatics thread.
