t**t, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

I bought the following pet supplies earlier:

- 5 lb. bag of "Timothy Complete" guinea pig food
- Hay trough for guinea pig
- Goldfish tank cleaning pump
- New food bowl for second guinea pig
- Loach food

Abbott, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

I think I'll change the litter box later, actually. Since you brought pets up. Thanks!

Clay, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

Matt, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

I had some tasty thai fried rice for lunch today.

Jaq, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

I meant to call up for a haircut today and I forgot! There's still time, though!

Clay, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

The world "loach" might be a bit for this thread. Yellow card.

Will M., Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

Oh someone broke one of the windows in my car the other day and the glass dude came out this afternoon to replace it and that was pretty much more expensive than I figured. Is this too exciting, though? (It has a criminal element.)

Clay, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

don't push it.

gbx, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

'xactly!
Will M's "yellow card" talk seemed criminally close to interesting also.

jhøshea, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

Clay, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

t**t, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

i think i have 1 beer in my fridge

I am full.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

I had 6 beers last night and played football manager 2007 for maybe 2 hours?

W4LTER, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

i just saw my neighbours. all this rain has disrupted their golf. they had traces of mud on their shoes and the woman was wearing out of character frosted white eye shadow. it was distracting. after a while i averted my eyes from it and that's how i ended up noticing the state of their shoes.

estela, Friday, 13 July 2012 05:56 (thirteen years ago)

how did you end up noticing the state of her eyes?

SHOCKING THE ACER ARENA (get bent), Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:33 (thirteen years ago)

While washing the dishes, I found myself thinking about a cormorant. It may have been the bird that was foremost in my mind, or it may just have been the word. I was scrubbing the saucepan with wire wool.

"Cormorant" is a pretty word, reminding me of "celebrant" and "supplicant" and "cor blimey". The exemplary phrase "Cor blimey, the celebrant murdered the supplicant!" brought the image of killer cormorants into my mind, dressed in dog collars like men of God, perhaps as a disguise to fox the police. I was by now removing tea stains from a tea cup.

For some reason, the word "cormorant" also made me think of the word "ptarmigan", although there is no connection between them except that they are both birds. Sorry, I mean, rather, that they are both words. And both have nine letters. The proposition "cormorants often murder ptarmigans" flashed into my head at this point. I was removing butter from the blade of a butter knife.

"Ptarmigan" in turn made me think of "pterodactyl" and "Michigan" and "tarnish", as in the sentence: "A pterodactyl flapped into Michigan, tarnished by murder most foul!" At that point I began thinking about dactylography, which in English is the scientific study of fingerprints, but in French means simply typing. As in "the murdered french typist exchanged dactylographie for dactylography". At that moment I was scrubbing a slow yellow yolk-smear from an egg-cup.

Finally, an Elvis Costello line popped into my head: She's filing her nails as they drag in the lake. Listening to that song, I always wondered how she could file her nails underwater. Then suddenly I realized that "they" didn't refer to her nails, but to policemen. But how was she managing to file policemen underwater?

The murky dish slops were just at that moment disappearing from the bottom of my sink with the gurgling sound blood makes in a murder mystery.

Grampsy, Saturday, 21 July 2012 14:39 (thirteen years ago)

there's a pile of boxes of stuff i should deal with in the middle of the room

it's kind of blocking the way through the room

it takes about twice as long to walk to the door

a minor reorganisation would make it so i could sort of step-hop over them without difficulty

reorganising them instead of dealing with them feels like cheating

when an friend who i havent talked to in months asked me have i done anything exciting this summer, i couldnt think of a single thing. im blaming the bad weather

Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Saturday, 21 July 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

This may be WAY too exciting for this thread, but the other evening, while walking home from work, I saw an ENOURMOUS stag beetle toodling along the A23.

It must have been about 2 inches long.

I want to smother him in electronic butter. (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Saturday, 21 July 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

two months pass...

Some new leaves on the ground from a nearby tree just outside my window. They look nice and crackly.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 18 October 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

I had a pie for dinner. It was quite nice, but I was disappointed to find when I got it out of its foil pie-tray that it did not have pastry sides or base, only a pastry top.

Mundane enough for you?

still small voice of clam (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 18 October 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

Now I post that I realise that it will probably set off some terrible flame war about how British pies are different to American pies. Oh well.

I had a pie like that once

I am thinking about maybe popping some brown bag popcorn and putting some nutritional yeast on it.

putting some nutritional yeast on it.

Veg, you are VERY good at diplomacy.

emil.y, Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:23 (thirteen years ago)

lol I'm not sure what that means...?

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, I thought that was purposefully vague in order to keep the peaceable vibe and not tangent off into Vegemite vs Marmite. [Let's not do that now I've actually broached the subject, though. Shhh, all is peace.]

emil.y, Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:25 (thirteen years ago)

hahaha lol, I love you for thinking that! ...no it's deactivated yeast that you can apparently put on popcorn

vegemite or marmite for that matter would taste p terrible on popcorn I would think

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:31 (thirteen years ago)

vegemitefail - I opened the jar and it was moldy! that is unheard of, afaik vegemite never goes bad. hmph.
I have another jar at home I'll try in a few days.
also nutrional yeast on popcorn is a lie: it just goes to the bottom of the bag and doesn't stick at all. lame.

six months pass...

I put about four hundred quid of work into the skoda last week, suspension, belts, fixing odds and ends like radio connections and a windscreen leak and whatnot. Hoping that the engine lasts well enough so that it makes this maintenance worthwhile, but then there's a timing kit refit in the next 10k km and the cost of tax added to that, if i sat down and added it up, idk, maybe i dont need a car for living in dublin, have a bike and a transport card....

otoh the engine model (vw 1.9 tdi alh) is a famous beast for longevity, and the suspension work (whole new front end, shocks, droplinks, wishbones, the works) made an immediate difference, plus the mechanic is an old friend who i dont catch up with enough and island mechanics with two preschoolers need old friends with old cars and iirc having a sturdy diesel and keeping it in good nick is as environmentally sound as any other method of driving (cue iatee) and ms mac loves an impromptu random spin and there's plenty of forest and coast in range, also the train out west is a joke and too expensive to be a funny one so.....idk
