I have 5 ducks, all female. Two of them think they are male and engage in simulated sex acts with the other female ducks. I read an interesting paper online about it:

Thought I'd share.

the link is a list of staff though?
I did read an intriguing line about Jung's swans being a source of inspiration for him in understanding his lesbian patients.

This doesn't surprise me, the crap that ducks have to put up with from drakes come mating time, I would pretend to be a drake if I were a duck. I seem to remember some tale on here a couple years ago of some duck trying to mate with a dead duck. They really are not nice animals. But delicious.

I'm sure they are - but I've got to say from what i've seen of drake behaviour they aren't exactly the chocolates and a movie type guys.

I've seen it often, three ducks. Two male, one female.
One holds the duck by the neck with his beak, the other mates with her. She either drowns or gets it. Maybe even both.

"I think at sort of a young age I began looking at sort of ornithographical magazines, so I became aware of...of science through people interested in birds, and particularly bird behavior. Because the migration of birds was the thing with which you were dominated. Some birds came through in the spring, and in the fall, and in the winter you saw another collection of ducks"
controversial "scientist", possible homophobe, yesterday.

some scientist guys published a paper on this. it won a prize.
They really are not nice animals.
whatever about the sexual mores of the male duck, it is maybe their self importance that is their most striking characteristic.
Still, I do not regret once helping a mother duck and her ducklings cross a busy street.
