Everytime I think the of the current population of the earth, man, it's doubled since I was in third grade. That's bittersweet shit! And of course it'll just keep growing....things like this, I think about sharing them with my kids someday and make a long mental sigh. "We used to pick asparagus by the ditch and huckleberries by the woods of our house...now these things cost more than top sirloin." Oh boy. My future.

NO, millenarian thinking is what's ruining our society and world! If you think the end's coming around the corner, you are so painfully, foolishly wrong. (NB t-bot I doubt you really think the moon's gonna turn to blood & 1/3 of the rivers will turn to wormwood.)

Abbott, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

no I just think there's no way we can sustain 7 billion without our fair share of catastrophic public health consequences and significant casualties as a result

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

famine, plague, etc.
and war but nobody will let us get an accurate body count on those any more

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

Well, yeah, that's a different matter. I remember reading Mormon church magazine as a wee lass, which said the earth could sustain 21 billion. How they came up with that statistic...wtf.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

Abbott, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

It wouyldn't be any fun on the moon, I mean, the place has no atmosphere.

If I'm going to have any children to share nostalgia with it'll be along the lines of "back in the 1980s and 1990s, there were a few things that actually weren't going too badly, and did you know the internet used to not be all porn and snuff clips"

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that's something I think about too..."you know, the internet used to be reallllllly slow, but it was new so just watching your first gif depixilate was an exciting new thing."

Abbott, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

"video games used to be hard"

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 October 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

"for me"

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 October 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

"They didn't used to have this much coffee."

So this thread is for practicing being old, then.
