full disclosure - i spent my youth playing in a saturday morning football league. one year, our team won only a single match - one half of a two-leg match, where we were roundly thrashed in the second leg. so perhaps i am just unusually well-adjusted to losing.

I blame the culture, you see kids playing "ILX" in PE lessons, and the teacher's always "C'MON, START A THREAD NOW, QUICKLY". In France and Italy kids don't even start a thread until they're 14, they just lurk and vote in poll threads before then.
