So Abby Elliott's network show officially didn't get picked up? I guess I haven't been following closely. She'll be back on SNL for sure. She's starting to win me over with things like her Zooey character, Fur Coat Rhonda and the girl hosting that "What Is This?" gameshow on Eli Manning's episode.

Nasim, Taran, Bobby, Vanessa and Bill will all be plenty capable of carrying the show's weight on their shoulders while newer hires find their footing. Kenan and Fred are sort of like scenery at this point...still funny, but they've given all they can give. Jay Pharaoh and Kate McKinnon are question marks going forward.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 27 May 2012 18:05 (eleven years ago) link

i dunno AE did recently break up with another cast member who's definitely not leaving. would rather she stay and FA leave, though.

his kid with cobie smulders is named Shaolin...or rather, Shaelyn. but still.

da croupier, Sunday, 27 May 2012 18:09 (eleven years ago) link

Watching HIMYM recently, I realized that I would reeeeeally like to see Taran and Cobie do a project together.

they did, its called parenthood

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Sunday, 27 May 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, weird, I thought that was Nate Fisher and Lorelai Gilmore on that show.

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 27 May 2012 19:43 (eleven years ago) link

i dunno if sudekis was upset or not at not getting a sendoff since it wasn't official or anything (it'd look bad to get a goodbye and then show up again, like you couldn't make it outside of snl), but i haven't seen anyone look so completely devastated as he did since irene got married on real world s2 and left the show and jon was totally crushed. it just looked like he was going to miss his buddy and couldn't deal with it enough for the singing and dancing. i could be wrong; just my impression.

also, sudekis is/was often the best part of skits where he was just a secondary character reacting to whatever foolishness was going on, like fist fight in the parking lot, lord wyndemere, that jim carrey channeler who was just doing impressions of famous people, what's up with that?, and so on. like, jimmy fallon levels of enthusiasm for just being there and getting to do this thing, but without the need to interrupt the proceedings to let everyone know about it. he just seems more comfortable always standing at the back of the stage during closings, not so much an up-front mugging type of guy.

slugbuggy, Sunday, 27 May 2012 21:29 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, he'll hopefully go down in SNL history as an A+ utility guy. AFAIC, he's just a few shades shy of Phil Hartman inasmuch as he's someone with the juice to be a star but the humility to fit effortlessly into an ensemble. Which is why I give him the benefit of the doubt re: his supposedly throwing a hissy fit over Wiig's send-off.

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 27 May 2012 21:37 (eleven years ago) link

i suspect it was something else that will be chronicled in some bitter SNL writer's memoir... you do have to wonder what wiig said to him during their hug though

Nhex, Sunday, 27 May 2012 23:25 (eleven years ago) link

goole, Sunday, 27 May 2012 23:41 (eleven years ago) link

there are some reports that he may still be back in the fall, although who knows really: http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-05-22/news/31816786_1_jason-sudeikis-kristen-wiig-snl

--niccimanewhore (some dude), Monday, 28 May 2012 01:47 (eleven years ago) link

Wait, so now Sudeikis is dating Olivia Wilde? He's like SNL's in-house MVP, where the P stands for playa.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 28 May 2012 03:17 (eleven years ago) link

They've been dating for a minute now. Who else has he dated besides January Jones since his divorce?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 03:20 (eleven years ago) link

really? Sudeikis? these SNL playas always surprise me

Nhex, Monday, 28 May 2012 03:34 (eleven years ago) link

This is a new development. I don't remember Adam Sandler or Kevin Nealon or Joe Piscopo jumping around from starlet to starlet.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 03:40 (eleven years ago) link

i think sudeikis might have gotten some heartthrob status from playing the only liz lemon boyfriend who wasn't a crazy dummy

some dude, Monday, 28 May 2012 03:45 (eleven years ago) link

Floyd ended up being the worst, though.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Monday, 28 May 2012 03:57 (eleven years ago) link

Nah, there's no logic to it. Remember David Spade?

Nhex, Monday, 28 May 2012 03:59 (eleven years ago) link

Oh yeah, sometimes I forget David Spade was even on SNL. But he sure did get around (for some reason).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 04:00 (eleven years ago) link

I just realized that if Seth comes back next year, he'll be the longest running update host in history!

rock the swagon and g.o.a.t. it (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:48 (eleven years ago) link

I couldn't even imagine who on this cast could replace him. Though I would wager they're grooming Mulaney for the job.

rock the swagon and g.o.a.t. it (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:49 (eleven years ago) link

Seth on WU is consistently funny and rly overlooked imo
still can't resist norm, but who has been better?

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:51 (eleven years ago) link

xpost

From what I understand, they've been bouncing that possibility around for a while. Might help ease the theoretical transition if he started making appearances again.

--he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison)

Seth is great, but Norm really is the gold standard, and i doubt anyone here would disagree

rock the swagon and g.o.a.t. it (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:53 (eleven years ago) link

oh I don't, I'm saying norm is best but besides him, who's been better than Seth?

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:54 (eleven years ago) link

fey & fallon were about as good as seth imo

seth is good tho

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:57 (eleven years ago) link

i don't think his contract is up tho

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:57 (eleven years ago) link

Dennis Miller was a good Update chair imo. He can eat shit now, but I found him really funny at the time.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:13 (eleven years ago) link

What? How is Fred Armisen not 50% of that pie?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:14 (eleven years ago) link

eh, never cottoned to Seth as a WE host. something about his face.

Nhex, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:25 (eleven years ago) link

The only actively terrible Update anchor I can think of is Colin Quinn. He wasn't in the most enviable position, though.

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 28 May 2012 05:29 (eleven years ago) link

Nealon wasn't much to speak of, either. I didn't remember until looking at wikipedia that he held the chair for three years.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:34 (eleven years ago) link

I remember Nealon being OK, but I know that's the childhood nostalgia

Nhex, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:36 (eleven years ago) link

I'm very surprised Booby Moynihan was on the show this year more than Bayer or Pedrad. I barely remember him doing anything.

Godzilla vs. Rodan Rodannadanna (The Yellow Kid), Monday, 28 May 2012 05:38 (eleven years ago) link

The difference between 5.13% and 7.56% is probably about three or four sketches.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:39 (eleven years ago) link

btw, did anyone else see Hader's appearance on Jimmy Fallon last Friday night? When he walked out, The Roots played "Trouble" by Lindsey Buckingham.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:47 (eleven years ago) link

where is Jon Hamm in that breakdown

Clay, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:50 (eleven years ago) link

lol, he probably does have a registrable percentage.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 May 2012 05:51 (eleven years ago) link

I thought Kate McKinnon did a pretty great job being thrown right into it all. Her skit as the Swedish Chelsea Handler a few weeks back was pretty funny.

For some reason I really crack up thinking of Morbius eagerly staring at his computer, desperately re-clicking on this thread to see if anybody bit at his troll bait.

Walter Galt, Monday, 28 May 2012 13:03 (eleven years ago) link

I was maybe being a bit facetious w/ Joan Cusack but srsly I thought Billy Madison was a lot bigger than $26m at the box office!

a parker full of poseys (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 03:10 (eleven years ago) link

that's still quite a good number for the early '90s

Nhex, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 03:41 (eleven years ago) link

Both Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore were HUGE on home video.
