It would make more sense for Shannon to play Non.

for some reason i remembered that one week they had nancy kerrigan hosting. when's the most recent example of this kind of thing?(blatant ratings stunt grab)
― Philip Nunez, Monday, 17 September 2012 19:52 (eleven years ago) link
i suppose one could make an argument for lindsay lohan last year, though she hosted in happier times as well

Betty White
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Monday, 17 September 2012 19:56 (eleven years ago) link
xpost
Betty White? Michael Phelps?
And yes, Morbs, one and the same. I'm working on a silent film, though, so maybe you'll come around to my comedic stylings.
― Old Lunch, Monday, 17 September 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link
the problem with saying which hosts are "rating stunts grab" is that they rarely pick hosts they don't HOPE will bring some ratings - i mean does eli manning count?
― da croupier, Monday, 17 September 2012 19:58 (eleven years ago) link
i mean nobody clubbed betty white or michael phelps in the kneecaps. i think you'd need to go octomom to get a similar level of salaciousness, but did that ever materialize?
― Philip Nunez, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:00 (eleven years ago) link
Kerrigan was a world class athlete, not just some lady in the news
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Monday, 17 September 2012 20:01 (eleven years ago) link
I don't even like Nancy Kerrigan and I would default to "Olympic Medalist" before "victim of Jeff Gillooly"
― wtf where's my chapbook (DJP), Monday, 17 September 2012 20:03 (eleven years ago) link
now if they'd gotten tonya harding to host, that'd be something
― da croupier, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:03 (eleven years ago) link
tonya harding wasn't that bad a skater either, though?
― Philip Nunez, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:04 (eleven years ago) link
yes but she's the one that fucked up royally, where kerrigan fits in with all the olympians and league champs who've hosted on a regular basis for decades
― da croupier, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:16 (eleven years ago) link
also Betty White is a talented comic performer as opposed to say Katherine Heigl
― kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Monday, 17 September 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link
kerrigan's no more salacious a host than say anne hathaway when she did her whole "lol i dated a con artist" bit
― da croupier, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:19 (eleven years ago) link
Betty White is great but she wasn't promoting anything or in the news. She was on purely because of a semi-ironic Facebook campaign.
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Monday, 17 September 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link
To Kerrigan's credit, she wasn't the worst host i've ever seen on SNL, but it's a fair wager that she'd never have been asked on without the ghoulish spectre surrounding her. Was Kristi Yamaguchi ever asked to host?
― Philip Nunez, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:21 (eleven years ago) link
do you have a point?
― da croupier, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:25 (eleven years ago) link
She was on purely because of a semi-ironic Facebook campaign.
I participated in that irony-free, fwiw.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link
kerrigan is one of many celebrity sports figures who hosted, and one of many who had some unpleasant business to lol about in her monologue - hard to really argue she was ONLY brought on for the latter and not the former.
― da croupier, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:29 (eleven years ago) link
i really got that impression though. the other athletes that got asked on don't seem to fit the profile.
― Philip Nunez, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:30 (eleven years ago) link
lorne only knows

what horrible things were Joe Namath, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning brought on to yuk it up about?

"Oh you won't disturb me, I'll be in my room masturbating." - Joe Montana
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Monday, 17 September 2012 20:35 (eleven years ago) link
if that's in ref to what i wrote, i wasn't saying the latter group were a subset of the former. There are sports figures who host and blushing "well THAT happened" celebs who host and Kerrigan fits into both
― da croupier, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:35 (eleven years ago) link
lol I meant Montana obv, not Namath

he's playing Zod!

Take shelter, son of Jor-El!
I still contend that there was a degree of gimmickry in having Miskell Spillman host.

I really love some of the episode descriptions of Misfits of Science
"Three Days of the Blender" When a blender is accidentally delivered to Billy, he ends up getting arrested as a spy and Stetmeyer gets targeted by the FBI.

lol totally wrong thread, what the hell is wrong with me today
Okay, so Drunk Uncle killed it last night. And the opening sketch with Fox & Friends/Mitt Romney videos was outstanding. Moynihan as Kilmeade is always great.

Just FYI, Morbs, because I know you haven't tuned in for a while, but this thread is about a different SNL than the Cosell show that you're familiar with.
