the problem with saying which hosts are "rating stunts grab" is that they rarely pick hosts they don't HOPE will bring some ratings - i mean does eli manning count?

i mean nobody clubbed betty white or michael phelps in the kneecaps. i think you'd need to go octomom to get a similar level of salaciousness, but did that ever materialize?

Kerrigan was a world class athlete, not just some lady in the news

yes but she's the one that fucked up royally, where kerrigan fits in with all the olympians and league champs who've hosted on a regular basis for decades

Betty White is great but she wasn't promoting anything or in the news. She was on purely because of a semi-ironic Facebook campaign.

To Kerrigan's credit, she wasn't the worst host i've ever seen on SNL, but it's a fair wager that she'd never have been asked on without the ghoulish spectre surrounding her. Was Kristi Yamaguchi ever asked to host?

kerrigan is one of many celebrity sports figures who hosted, and one of many who had some unpleasant business to lol about in her monologue - hard to really argue she was ONLY brought on for the latter and not the former.

i really got that impression though. the other athletes that got asked on don't seem to fit the profile.
