David Spade is SNL's king of staying on primetime with shows nobody cares about -- 7 seasons of Just Shoot Me, 2 seasons of 8 Simple Rules, and now Rules Of Engagement going into its 7th season

I just see Fey as more powerful in the biz than JL-D, I mean, Seinfeld doesn't seem to help Richards or Alexander, really.

Never realized New Adv lasted 5 years, seems like 2 or 3.

Just Shoot Me was a great show, never understood why it wasn't better regarded

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 4 October 2012 14:06 (eleven years ago) link

Just Shoot Me was a great show for two seasons; it lasted for seven

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 4 October 2012 14:07 (eleven years ago) link

Okay, I would watch a whole lot more of Kate McKinnon as Ellen Degeneres. Make it happen SNL.

FUZZ ALDRIN

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:12 (eleven years ago) link

oh wow, there are now two Muse songs I like

Technology of the Big Muff (DJP), Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:17 (eleven years ago) link

I was just about to come here and affirm my already held belief that Muse is terrible.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:18 (eleven years ago) link

they are terrible but I liked that song

Technology of the Big Muff (DJP), Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:19 (eleven years ago) link

Now that I've heard my second Muse song, and I like it as well, I'm ready to acknowledge them as a guilty pleasure.

dan selzer, Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:20 (eleven years ago) link

Kate McKinnon is winning this episode for reals.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:31 (eleven years ago) link

She's great. Big Bird winning though.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:33 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah. It's always interested the rate new players find their groove/use and she's running away with it.

dan selzer, Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:34 (eleven years ago) link

liking this british tv show sketch even though its bombing

turds (Hungry4Ass), Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:38 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i appreciate a nod towards relentlessly grim working class british sitcoms.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:39 (eleven years ago) link

that has got to be the worst spanish accent i've ever heard.

s.clover, Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:41 (eleven years ago) link

also that british sketch was funnier than every single episode of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. every one.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:41 (eleven years ago) link

damn... these Muse guys suck ass

turds (Hungry4Ass), Sunday, 7 October 2012 04:54 (eleven years ago) link

Yep.

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Sunday, 7 October 2012 07:40 (eleven years ago) link

I fell asleep early but Kate McKinnon was beastly last night

Technology of the Big Muff (DJP), Sunday, 7 October 2012 12:40 (eleven years ago) link

i had to google who lea michele was :/

Mary Ty$ Band (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 7 October 2012 14:47 (eleven years ago) link

You are a lucky man.

controversial cabaret roommate (Nicole), Sunday, 7 October 2012 15:09 (eleven years ago) link

Was that actually Carroll Spinney as Big Bird? Sure sounded like him.

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 8 October 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

Ah, OK, it was. Cool.

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 8 October 2012 16:44 (eleven years ago) link

been waiting for kate m to finally look as comfortable on SNL as she did at UCB and this week definitely suggested she's turning that corner.

put me in with the "enjoyed muse" crowd, i don't need much of their music but I'm all for a band that suggests what radiohead would be like if they were more shamelessly prog - emphasis on "shamelessly"

da croupier, Monday, 8 October 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

call me a rockist but when i saw that dude's dubstep double guitar i was in love

da croupier, Monday, 8 October 2012 16:48 (eleven years ago) link

may have loved the singer's dramatic yelps on song 2 even more

da croupier, Monday, 8 October 2012 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

that has got to be the worst spanish accent i've ever heard.

It wasn't much worse than the one Antonio Banderas uses.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 October 2012 16:54 (eleven years ago) link

Man, do I feel badly for Aidy Bryant. Not a single appearance this week (unless you count .5 seconds of distress face during the goodbyes). It was rad of Lorne & Co. to hire her, but I was thinking at the time I heard the news that they wouldn't know what to do with her (or, worse, that they'd simply avoid doing anything with her) and that seems to be panning out. All of the other featured players have gotten fairly extensive airtime. I hope it doesn't take some 'Me want food!'-esque sketch for her to get a little recognition.

Gyrate For Physicet (Old Lunch), Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:41 (eleven years ago) link

P.S. Christina Applegate was a really winning host but, aside from the debate sketch, that was a pretty meh episode.

Gyrate For Physicet (Old Lunch), Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:43 (eleven years ago) link

my mom called me and told me how much she loved Bobby Moynihan's "I MISS MY KITTY CAAAAT" sketch

Mary Ty$ Band (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:43 (eleven years ago) link

I loved the Odysseus & The Sirens sketch, which won't make it online because of the music. There is a pretty good compilation of sketches over the past years that have fallen the same fate.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:59 (eleven years ago) link

Just caught the episode and it was pretty lukewarm, but I thought the Tech Talk sketch was amazing. Also, I love Jean K Jean. ZUT ALORS!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 15 October 2012 04:58 (eleven years ago) link

the tech talk skit was super preachy in a not really creative way -- it's cool if you're going to make the point that they're making, but setting it under the guise of "a talk show" so that you can use the characters as mouthpieces means that you should actually just write a blog post

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:07 (eleven years ago) link

also the thing where they funnelled feminist viewpoints of the debate thru the character of arianna huffington was... bizarre

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:07 (eleven years ago) link

also wussup with the one woman who they hired to obviously be the sequel to kristen wiig? in back-to-back sketches she used that midwest mom accent and then danced and made funny faces at the camera while everyone else in the scene played it straight

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:09 (eleven years ago) link

ZUT ALORS tho, fuck it, good enough for me

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:09 (eleven years ago) link

You mean the host? Christina Applegate was channelling Wiig something fierce in that last skit.

dan selzer, Monday, 15 October 2012 05:14 (eleven years ago) link

Kate McKinnon kind of taking the ball and running with it

Mary Ty$ Band (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:15 (eleven years ago) link

Felt like Applegate was doing a straight Wiig impersonation in the Californians, but otoh I'm not sure what all can be done with that stock character.

Clay, Monday, 15 October 2012 05:15 (eleven years ago) link

oh shit was that her? ha, nevermind. i was on the phone when that skit came on so i was only paying half-attention. but yeah that was a bit blatant, wasn't it?

xxp

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:15 (eleven years ago) link

It's weird thinking that of the 5 cast members with the longest tenures in SNL history, three (Seth, Kenan, Fred) of them are currently active

Mary Ty$ Band (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:17 (eleven years ago) link

head writer kenan thompson, let's make it happen

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 October 2012 05:18 (eleven years ago) link

Fosse choreographer sketch felt like a Wiig leftover too

lol at jordan not knowing who christina applegate is or just now noticing snl going 'fuck it, fake talk show' when they have an idea but can't be bothered to go the extra mile and develop it. kate mckinnon has really established herself quick, her and taran killam are fantastic. episode was definitely meh though - only laughed at debate sketch which was a gimme but they nailed it, tech talk which was sloppy but funny enough in conception - kinda weird to hear nasim's sarcastic concern voice in triplicate though, and the californians which was probably the weakest one of those yet and definitely an idea that should be retired but i still laugh at hader and armisen every time. o and jean k jean was still great but i'm always up for comedy making fun of comedians - they could probably roll out a 'kings of catch phrase comedy' every two weeks and it'd take forever for me to complain.

balls, Monday, 15 October 2012 05:29 (eleven years ago) link

tech talk was the worst. "how dare you criticize a company's products when they use cheap foreign labor"?

da croupier, Monday, 15 October 2012 05:30 (eleven years ago) link

also everybody getting to pull out their finest chinese accents
