All this talk about dull-sounding life simulators reminds me of Sierra's Jones In The Fast Lane (aka Keeping Up With Jones), which wasn't very good at all but kept me quite entertained, mainly thanks to high-tech digitized voices...

Wizkid was amazing and unique altho the payoff at the end was a bit of a joke - making you play Asteroids (Wizeroids) and score 5000 or whatever it was to complete the game

I'm only about 5 hours in so it's too early for me to know this for sure, but I think I might want to retract my Knights of The Old Republic nomination and replace it with a Mass Effect nomination. Grounds: same game but better. Sticking point: is it likely to have a plot twist anywhere near as amazing as the one in KOTOR? Probably not.

You spend most of the game looking for this sith lord...and it turns out he's YOU! Sounds patheic and obvious when taken out of context, but through the first 30 or 40 hours the game does amazing amounts of misdirection, while encouraging you to really care about your character, so when the twist does drop it manages to be truly shocking and also incredibly crushing.
