I'll get one pair of pants I really love and wash them every 20 days or so and just keep doing this until they fall apart.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 21:40 (eighteen years ago)
I have three pairs of jeans and only when I notice stains on them (most commonly when I'm going through a cooking phase) do I wash them.
― en i see kay, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 21:48 (eighteen years ago)
work pants after 2 wears. jeans maybe after 10
― electricsound, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:45 (eighteen years ago)
abbott/es i am totally w/ you guys on this, i rewash jeans once every two consecutive weeks pretty much
― deeznuts, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:49 (eighteen years ago)
whether he's worn them or not!
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:53 (eighteen years ago)
Usually after I've them once. Dirty pant wearers wtf. I mean, I can understand the occasional need to re-don a pair of unwashed pants, but making a habit of it is kind of grody.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:56 (eighteen years ago)
every wash brings clothes closer to death
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:58 (eighteen years ago)
but sometimes it's necessary to be aware of mortality
― youn, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:59 (eighteen years ago)
folks i have a feeling mr hand is mocking us
― deeznuts, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:59 (eighteen years ago)
Usually after I've worn them once.
xp: if your clothes are falling apart in the wash, that probably doesn't speak well for their construction
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:00 (eighteen years ago)
rev no one fucking notices & anyone who does thinks u r cool ime
― deeznuts, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)
The fact that I could afford to buy my clothes probably doesn't speak well for their construction.

― milo z, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:05 (eighteen years ago)
was this supposed to go on the Dirtbag Style thread, Abbott?
no actually washing's fine it's the tumble dryer that's the killer
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:06 (eighteen years ago)
I don't wear the pants every single day, I wear skirts, too. (Which I wash after one-two wears. whoa.)
― Abbott, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:10 (eighteen years ago)
This thread reminds me, I need new pants, and for chrissakes a new pair of shoes for work.
― RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:21 (eighteen years ago)
Sometimes I go ages not washinv pants, but it depends on how stinky they get/wether I manage to get stains on them (so like Jim, work pants get cleaned more often).
I have a pair of PVC pants I've never washed, I mean how do you wash PVC.
― Trayce, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:26 (eighteen years ago)
Back in my mid-20s, I had a couple pairs of jeans that never once saw water, let alone soap. Nowadays I wash the jeans maybe once a month.
― libcrypt, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 01:14 (eighteen years ago)
Making matters worse was bathing once/week.
― libcrypt, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 01:15 (eighteen years ago)
I wash them once per time it takes for them to get dirty.
― S-, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 02:57 (eighteen years ago)

I have about 7 main pairs of jeans, I wash 'em about every 5-6 weeks. I interchange.
― jel --, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 09:46 (eighteen years ago)
When they smell and/or start to have brownish/greenish tinges that were not there when I bought them.
― AndyTheScot, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 10:03 (eighteen years ago)
Work trousers after 4 wears (Monday to Thursday, Friday is casual), jeans usually around that or less.
― Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 10:07 (eighteen years ago)
I can only wear my jeans 3 or 4 times before they stretch out too much to look nice. When I've just washed them they fit perfectly, but it's all downhill from there.
I wear Levi's. I don't know what the problem is.
― Kath, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 11:07 (eighteen years ago)
My white pants get washed when they look dirty, i.e. almost every time I wear them. My jeans, which are my everyday pants, rarely. I think I might have washed them two months ago, but I forget. I'm not sure if I've ever washed my wool slacks.
― Jacob, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 16:56 (eighteen years ago)
"I can only wear my jeans 3 or 4 times before they stretch out too much to look nice. When I've just washed them they fit perfectly, but it's all downhill from there."
YES!!!
Please someone tell me if there are jeans out there that don't do this!!!
― ENBB, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)
thats what jeans do! its a total chick prob because guys do not worry about showing off their legs & have discovered belts
― deeznuts, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 17:00 (eighteen years ago)
Somehow pants are the exception, like they fit in with my jacket and boots and other outerwear that gets cleaned only when obviously necessarily. I change into clean socks twice a day, I never wear dirty shirts, and I often shower a couple times in a day. But pants are just pants, they sit besides the laundry basket to be put back on in the morning.
― Jacob, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 17:02 (eighteen years ago)
^^yes
well mostly anyway, some of that sounds slightly ocd
― deeznuts, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 17:04 (eighteen years ago)
Once every 6 weeks I stand in a waist-deep river for 4 hours.
― Kerm, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 17:11 (eighteen years ago)
I throw all my clothes into the sea and I wear what ever washes up the next day.
― Jarlrmai, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 17:36 (eighteen years ago)
sea anemone is a good look but somewhat uncomfortable
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)
Once I got a remora for 3 weeks.
― Jarlrmai, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 17:48 (eighteen years ago)
We have really crappy clothes dryers, so it's not in my best interest to wash pants every time I do the wash (every two weeks). The less clothes I put in there the better, and often that means some pants get left out until some future date.
― Bimble, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:07 (eighteen years ago)
Am I really the odd one here? Please tell me there's someone else out there who washes their pants after wearing them once so I'm not self-conscious about my clean jeans.
― rev, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:14 (eighteen years ago)
i re-wear my jeans until they are way saggy or smelly.
― Jordan, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:16 (eighteen years ago)
I'm constantly dropping food on myself, so I end up washing things all the time
― Dan I., Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:17 (eighteen years ago)
If they aren't noticeable dirty/smelly, there's no real reason to wash them. Wastes time, energy, water, etc. Also, washing/drying is hard on fabric so they wear out faster.
Next time we're at the beach I'm totally going for the kelp/holdfast/sanddollar look.
― Jaq, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:19 (eighteen years ago)
I figure that depending on weather and level of physical activity, I can get two to four wears out of a pair of britches before I need to launder them.
― Oilyrags, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:19 (eighteen years ago)
It counts at wearing them "once" if you don't take them off for 6-8 days straight, right?
rev: you're fine. These people are gross.
― Kerm, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)
When they are stained. Sheesh people you guys are srsly american/too hygienic.
― stevienixed, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:41 (eighteen years ago)
The only thing I wash after wearing it once is underwear or something I've gotten visibly dirty. Most other items - pants and tops - get worn at least twice and then laundered.
― ENBB, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:41 (eighteen years ago)
What, Euro butts don't smell? Please. XP
― dan m, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:42 (eighteen years ago)
before good job and girlfriend, it was when they began to offend me, and sometimes not even then. now i try to be a bit more respectable. every 4th wear or so.
― andrew m., Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)
Dan, you nutcase, I wear underwear! :-)
T-shirts I wash after wearing once. I sweat. But jeans? How the fuck do you get that so dirty? Pants teh same thing: I wear it a lot before I wash it. But t-shirts get washed after wearing once. Sweaters? Hmm, kinda depends. But I try not to wash it too often. No need to. Unless you wanna ruin it. Knitted items should be handled carefully. Better to air it out.
Do you grab your ball with kleenex?
;-)
― stevienixed, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:45 (eighteen years ago)
I wash my jeans whenever I do laundry, which is maybe once a month or 6 weeks, with occasional soaking and line-drying of the torso/ass in lieu of washing, to improve the fit. (Must buy new, smaller jeans.)
Also nothing comes between me and my Levi's.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:50 (eighteen years ago)
f they aren't noticeable dirty/smelly, there's no real reason to wash them. Wastes time, energy, water, etc.
I never thought of it that way, but yeah.

That seemed like a pretty unambiguous question.
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)
Let me repeat the question (with a little twist):
kleenex Do your you ball with? grab
Jaq's right: people be wasting too much water/detergent.
― stevienixed, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 20:25 (eighteen years ago)
Jeans - whenver they get smelly, which can vary.
Non-denim, but washing machine wear - usually VISUALLY dirty as opposed to OLFACTORALLY dirty, as they are lighter in color
Suit/Tailored pants - Dryclean every three months or so. You're supposed to lay them out after wearing them, and then hang them up. That way they stay somewhat fresh.
Tshirts, underwear - one wear, one wash
dress shirts - usually 2 - 4 wears between washings

Does anyone think my method of just febreezing all my 'Dry Clean Only' skirts/jackets/coats is a good idea?
― Abbott, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 21:48 (eighteen years ago)
Except for exceptionally delicate fabrics, Febreeze pretty much kicks ass at saving drycleaning bills for you. The REAL delicate stuff (thin silks, cashmere, etc.) I'm always hesitant about spraying anything on them.
You also may want to check out the DIY "drycleaning" kits that are pretty much dryer sheets with the drycleaning chemicals on them - you put your drycleaning stuff in the dryer with them and bam! So fresh, and so clean...you do have to iron them, but I do that anyway.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 14 May 2008 21:51 (eighteen years ago)
!!!!
I have never heard of these wonders!
― Abbott, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 21:52 (eighteen years ago)
to orig. question: about every five days.
― Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 22:30 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, they pretty much rock. I would say, however, that you may want to only use them on single layer clothing OR lined clothing where the lining/outer layer are stitched, instead of glued, together. So, shirts, skirts, pants (if they fit the above description) and sweater type things. Suit jackets, on the other hand, should ONLY be drycleaned by the pros.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 14 May 2008 22:45 (eighteen years ago)
I wouldn't use Febreeze for the same reason I wouldn't live in a dry cleaner.
