Robert Asprin (1946-2008)On May 22, 2008, Bob passed away quietly in his home in New Orleans, LA. He had been in good spirits and working on several new projects, and was set to be the Guest of Honor at a major science fiction convention that very weekend. He is survived by his mother, his sister, his daughter and his son, and his cat, Princess, not to mention countless friends and fans and numerous legendary fictional characters. He will be greatly missed.

I stopped reading the Myth books somewhere around book 8 or 9, but they were (and still are) among my favorite things to read when I'm ill.
Apparently he had a heart attack.

Very sad. An amiable nerd and I mean that as a compliment!
Here's to my favorite thing he ever did, the Duncan and Mallory books with Mel White.

Damn... Sad day. I read a bunch of the Myth & Thieves' World books between the ages of, like 12 and 15. Loved 'em to death, though I haven't read anything by Asprin in ages.

wow
It's very scary seeing these folks who are younger than my parents pass away.

I love the old Kelly Freas and Phil Foglio art on the Starblaze editions.

Ran across this in the alt.fan.asprin FAQ
This went well until the late 1990's, when RLA's career was disrupted by a converging set of circumstances. Firstly, Mr. Asprin ended up in extremely serious trouble with the American federal tax agency, the Internal Revenue Service, over the supposed non-payment of income taxes, specifically in relation to his appearances at various science fiction conventions. The IRS is reported to have garnished RLA's income, meaning that, while the garishment was in place, any income RLA made would go directly to the IRS. If he were to write and publish a book under these conditions, any and all profits would be automatically claimed by the IRS.A way around this, evidently, was for RLA to sign off on officially 'co-authored' books. This is presumably one reason why the Phule and Time Scout series continued to appear under co-authored bylines (Peter J. Heck and Linda Evans, respectively.) License Invoked (with Jody Lynn Nye) used the same scheme.According to RLA's own introduction to Myth-ion Improbable, as of April 2000, this dispute was finally "resolved."

If memory serves, he also lost his home during Katrina too.
A quick remembrance from me -- someone who knew him for some years has already stopped by and complimented me on it, which was very flattering.
