do you just love margaritas?

(does anyone really drink them frozen? is frozen even a real margarita? it's like a lime slushy with tequila.)

anyway, on the rocks WITH SALT.

are there any actually-good storebought mixes? i resort to them out of laziness but most of them are crap.

Some purists insist on drinking it neat and guffaw at a salted rim. But yeah I'm a rocks+salt guy too.

Margaritas roxor. Tequila + tangy fruit is always a winner. I will be having one (w/ tamarind) in approximately 90 minutes.

Zing Zang makes a good Bloody Mary mix -- I would like to give their Marg mix a try. Making margaritas in small quantities, it's easy enough to avoid mixes.

Yeah, I don't really touch hard liquor unless it's in a gin and tonic or a margarita. Really looking forward to sitting outside on a patio with a margarita (rocks, salt) this summer. There's a Guatemalan place not too far from me that makes a good one.

omg Surmounter you reminded me of this Avocado margarita in dallas that that sooooo good. It might not endure for anyone as a fave drink over time but the one I had was awesome.

I kind of agree. Even with really good mixer, there's so much fruit and sugar covering the liquor it doesn't make THAT much difference. Your hangover will be enhanced, however.

What's the name of the refreshing drink that they drink in Mexico, far more than Margaritas I'm told?

i know they are kind of foul, but i love using the concentrated frozen bacardi mixers, throwing a banana or something in, and using double the booze. this is about the only thing my blender is used for.

The worst margarita I've ever had was in Peru, and it's partially my fault, since I didn't stop the waitress when I saw her consulting with a co-worker and paging through a book behind the bar. It tasted like artificial lemon juice with a hint of alcohol.

michael, the micheladas i've had are beer + some manner of tomato / clamato juice, lime juice + chili pepper / hot sauce over ice

Okay, I've had Micheladas - not a big fan, but I've definitely had them. My 'understanding' was that there was was some kind of soda/tequila thing or something along those lines.

I always thought it would be kind of messed up to name three daughters Margaret, Pearl and Daisy, elmo.

the ones i've had have been tomato/clamato-free, but there are many variations. as elmo says - a++. very refreshing.

tequila mixed with fresh lime juice and topped up with soda is great. if you omit the soda, it's called a crazy eddie (by me, anyway).

dark rum + cream soda = holiday drink. this is like my new gospel i tell everyone. it's good.

who has really good recipes/recs re: which tequila to use?

i use david wondrich's recipe in his book killer cocktails

2 oz. tequila
1 oz. cointreau
1 oz. lime juice

rim the glass with a lemon or lime wedge, roll it in coarse salt and chill. shake the liquids w/ice and strain into a chilled glass. when i make them i make them up but you could strain over fresh rocks too.

for tequila i just use whatever 100% agave blanco is on sale in the store--don't think you need to overthink it for margaritas

yeah i generally make them up when it's just cocktail time, but for meals on the rocks makes more sense to me. certainly don't begrudge ppl their frozen drinks but am highly suspicious of the mixes that are used in making them.

For your salt container couldn't you use a sugar dish?

sugar bowls tend to be smaller and deeper--need something where you can sit the entire rim of the glass in a shallower pool of salt.

i guess it's possible that there are sugar dishes that would work tho!

oh and all i was saying is that ime blended margs tend to be made with mixes--i haven't encountered many cases of ppl using fresh juice and blending! but that would be cool if it was happening.
