Ah, ok. Was wondering who that was.

Feel like there's a critical moment of Twitter success where you turn off email notifications because they become too overwhelming. I have not reached that point and probably will not ever

lol it cut off but that was in response to Nicholson baker following back
If Google buys Twitter, there’s a perfect spot for it in YouTube
five years later, facebook will fuck the goog and then we'll all be part of the same adopted family

31 followers, damn this is uphill
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:54 (seven years ago) link
one problem I may face is being too concentrated in one or two subspheres of twitter, think I need to broaden out a little
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:55 (seven years ago) link
tbh I have more followers and I am sure 90% of them are straight garbage, really need to delete all these ones that are pretty much bots
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:56 (seven years ago) link
180 followers btw
137 for me but it's people in my field and definitely some bots. using it for work and during conferences (there are like who sub-conferences happening on twitter whenever i go to a conference) makes it easier to get followers
― marcos, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:02 (seven years ago) link
oh lol apparently my cousin's kid's twitter name is @mylastname_mh

yea. also too sometimes i debate whether to post something to twitter or to facebook and i cant decide, it would be nice to just have them integrated in some kind of way idk

why?
― flopson, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:18 (seven years ago) link
because Google can eat a dick and I don't use their shitty services...? That goes for Facebook too.
― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:22 (seven years ago) link
it might be a harbinger of it turning into complete shit but tbh the end-times days of services are usually really entertaining

― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:25 (seven years ago) link
mainly because google is terrible about privacy and anonymity

I have no need for either
xp

Facebook sucks. google seems unavoidable to me but i guess if you were keen on it you could find ways to get around using any of its features. how do you, like, look up directions, shakey?

Google is already indexing all your tweets and they're available in search so
― Cumstaun (Phil D.), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:53 (seven years ago) link
yeah but Google links your accounts on various platforms
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:55 (seven years ago) link
there are a ton of different map/search engines/whatever. acting like Google is the only one is sad.
I'm not interested in having all of my various doings linked to a single Google account, I will never do it.
― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:56 (seven years ago) link
Yeah I use Google search rarely (DuckDuckGo mostly) and Google anything else never (other than at work, on my work account). My old gmail is still accruing marketing email that I check on every six months or so.

the only Google thing I willingly did was set up a youtube account for my band's videos and I even that I don't like doing/only did out of obligation

I do not "netflix and chill" as I prefer to use platforms unencumbered by digital rights management
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:57 (seven years ago) link
xp yeah that's my issue, the way it hooks up your gmail, your youtube, even non google-based email accounts, drive, calendar etc. I'm starting to disentangle myself from all of it although it's tough bc of the convenience.
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:58 (seven years ago) link
they're insanely clumsy at cross-platform aggregation and half the shit, even things they bought long ago like youtube, have different content policies
most of what you're getting is one sign-in to a bunch of sites, which is pretty ok

openstreetmap dudes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenStreetMap
kind of hoping google buys twitter that way a lot of users jump ship because of not wanting to give google too much of their info
plus google has had many failed projects and i'm hoping this track record will help drive twitter down
― F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 21:05 (seven years ago) link
OSM is a good group but I follow a handful of people connected to the project and they're really trying to position their efforts as far as getting people to volunteer to update things, block-by-block. They're really in the phase between being an enthusiast tool for data projects and being an enterprise-grade map provider for things like personal navigation
