Heroes & Villains

Right, I need help. I have been invited to a fancy dress party (yes, I know, groan groan etc.) at the end of the month and the theme is Heroes & Villains. Bearing in mind that a) I am skint b) I might want to pull at this party so must look in some way alluring (miracles happen...) and c) I have to travel all the way to Vauxhall on public transport, can anyone suggest a good costume?

Villain is easy enough - goth up a bit and wear something vampy and you can go as Cruella De Ville.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rowr!

Or do something with your teeth. I noticed last night you have lovely teeth - draw attention to them! Shame you don't really have the body shape for Nosferatu...

Mark C, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Where am I gonna get a puppy skin coat from at this time of year? Hmm, I do have quite a lot of black faux leather / PVC clothing - mind you it's quite hot & sweaty.

I am not sure if I have the teeth of a hero or a villain. Surely villains have horrid teeth with some missing & stuff like Bill Sykes or something.

Maybe I will ignore their stupid theme and just go as a PRINCESS.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, Emma. It's too bad you aren't shaped like a blood-sucking hunchback with the world's worst manicure.

Surely you've got enough stuff in your wardrobe to throw together a decent Bonnie costume. This has the added bonus of beeing able to drunkenly approach fanciable men at the party and leer, "Hey baby, wanna be my Clyde?"

Most real life villains are very ordinary looking people - you could pass them on the street and nobody would notice them. People often say that they were quiet unassuming neighbours.

And who are the real heroes in todays society. Firefighters? Police? Teachers? Meet them all off duty and they are just like you and me.

We are the heroes and villains already. No need to dress up.

Pete, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What about the lady out of Lust For A Vampire (fillum that spawned the funniest joke in the world...ever)? She had good teeth and was a villain.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Go as the Princess out of the Princess and the Pea then.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Or paint yourself green and go as the Pea. Be careful about who you tell, though, as this could lead to a disasterous situation should you pull someone.

Dan Perry, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's like that bit from the Addams Family Person: And where's your costume Wednesday?

Wednesday: I'm an axe murdering pyscopath, they look just like everybody else.

Sorry to quote that at you.

Marilyn Monroe would be a good herione/ icon and would suit you and be good for pulling. But proper costume would be a bit pricey to hire

Anna, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The trouble with going as a scary vampire type chick is that everyone will think I think it's Hallowe'en. Maybe I should go as Margaret Thatcher ha ha (though not ideal clobber for pulling in. Imagine the kind of mentalist that would attract...).

Pete's post is making me hope all the men go as firemen, rowr. Maybe I should go as a nurse, they are pretty heroic in many ways + men wuv all that shit.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Go as Brian Wilson. Stripey shirt and fireman's helmet. Easy.

Michael Jones, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

On reflection I have decided the problem is that there are 2 types of heroes, i.e. oh, I look up to so-and-so because of all they have achieved blah blah, role model etc. etc. - which it's not easy to dress up as - then there's heroes as in the hero / heroine of a book / film who are not so much heroes as leading characters. Crikey. Which do they mean?

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dammit Jonesy beat me to the punchline, only I was going to suggest Mike Love as more of a villain.

chris, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cabbage: are you suggesting that the sort of boys Emma hopes to attract will be impressed by her rocking the beard, bald head and daft cap look?

Tim, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wouldn't be surprised if they were, to be honest.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma's trying to pull Anthony?

Dan Perry, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

!!!!!!

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

tim, maybe, but the Rankin' Miss P may get a little jealous.

chris, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmmmm. Cursed drunken people and their conceptual art projects.

I think I might wear a groovy retro 80s dress I have with shoulder pads and big heels and hair and be Alexis from Dynasty. More of a bitch than a villain but still.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mmmm it is Virtual Emma Dress-Up, my new favorite game. Nurse idea = classic if you're searching for men. Goth ideas = dud as I'm unconvinced your hair would cooperate with them. (Assuming you haven't done anything drastic with your hair lately.)

Bitsuh, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Be Alexis! That's brilliant. You can sashay everywhere in an outfit like that.

Anna, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am fixated on the notion of soap bitches now. Maybe I will go as Janine the Teen Crack Ho. Or Nicola from Emmerdale.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe schoolgirls are the real heroes in today's society.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have inadvertently created a thread for PERVERTALISTS.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

if you're going as a hero then there is only one person you can go as:

ENRIQUE!!!!!!!!

chris, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma go as BATGURL. you know you want to really!!

katie, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(Emma can you create a flash doohickey where we click and drag cut- outs of various items of clothing onto pictures of you?)

Bitsuh, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Racquel from Only Fools and Horses. She's a hero for sorting out Del Boy.

Jonnie, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma, why don't you go as a dirty nurse? Nurses are heroes to everyone, and dirty nurses are heroes to PERVERTALISTS. And you could wear a coat over your costume so no one would pervertalise you on the tube.

DV, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

put a sheet over your head and go as a member of the shadow us govt.

Queen G, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

GO AS BRIAN WILSON.

Poops McGee, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

go as a firefighter with a bloody axe

bc, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There was a woman dressed as Wonder Woman on a TV show called Ted And Alice yesterday. Catwoman is good. Emma Peel is relatively easy and doesn't look too idiotic on public transport. None of these will do pulling power any harm, though it largely depends on what suits you.

Martin Skidmore, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh yes, Emma, Catwoman! You already have the black leathery things and you'd make an absolutely rrowrr Catwoman.

Bitsuh, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry, I don't know what Emma looks like, but all indications point to wicked villainness for maximum rrrraowness.

This site has probably been discussed on this board before, but maybe you'll find some inspiration...or if not, at least some amusement. Check the page for "The Freshness of the Baroness."
