live the dream.
my favourite sandwich is one of the swiss cheese ciabattas from the Runner Bean in Dublin.
Failing that, the brie baguettes from the French place in the Epicurean Emporium are v. nice.

Ya gotta be kidding me. Hell, I can find good sandwiches even in OC, there has to be *something* in the Bay Area.
Favorite? I am very partial to the chicken tortas made at Taco Mesa. Mmm.

yesterday i had a sandwich with fresh basil on it. i always forget how good fresh basil is on a sandwich! if the right kind of sandwich (this sandwich was mozzarella, tomato & basil, grilled)
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:27 (seventeen years ago)
yesterday i bought some fresh basil but was too stuffed from burrito to use it. it's now sitting upright in a pint glass in my refrigerator.
― gabbneb, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:29 (seventeen years ago)
bbt: basil, bacon, tomato. add homemade mayo and serve on good bread. yum.

mmm
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:32 (seventeen years ago)
fresh herbs really make a big difference on sandwiches. my favorite sandwich is a bahn mi with grilled pork and whatever that crazy head cheese type stuff is.
― mizzell, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:33 (seventeen years ago)
either a "saigon-style" banh mi (basically any banh mi with pork and pate) or an Italian beef w/mozz and giardiniera on crusty garlic bread.
― Granny Dainger, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)
all i want right now is a vietnamese sandwich but i work in the middle of no vietnamese restaurants land :(
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:52 (seventeen years ago)
i know... all this bahn mi talk is driving me nuts!
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)
yeah i'm at least 10 miles from even a half-decent one myself argh
― Granny Dainger, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)
ok, you know what? It's delish - PBL and M.
I think there is a difference between a sandwich -a convenient food choice that is good for a lunch box - and, y'know, crusty bread drizzled with olive oil with amazing ingredients. I am sure this has been debated before, BUT...I love both. I just hate chewing when I'm hungry/rushed/hungover/hungry. I also tend to skip breakfast, so lunch becomes a very important meal that I start craving at 10:00 a.m.
I am also feeling upset about all of those vietnamese sandwiches that I can't have. But they are not so different from a cold cut grinder, or even a cubano?
I can't chew in the morning. Is this weird?
― aimurchie, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)
right now Katsu chicken w/ spicy mayo

oh man, there aren't a lot of good vietnamese sandwich options here either. when i get up to the twin cities next month i'm getting pork banh mi + pineapple bread.
― Jordan, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:10 (seventeen years ago)
...so can I say that there's a good enough Vietnamese sandwich spot just three minutes walk from where I work or will you all kill me?
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)
daaaamn pineapple bread!

― aimurchie, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)
pineapple bread is what happens when you lock a whole pineapple and a loaf of bread in a room and don't let them out until they breed.

Ok. There's a really crazy sandwich - grinder, hero, sub - that my local italian place offers.
Get ready: Eggplant, ham, veal, two cheeses and whatever veggies you want. maybe peppers. All in a marinara melted cheese puddle of yum.
it MIGHT be the most politically incorrect sandwich ever. It's called "The Big John", after the owner of Nini's.
― aimurchie, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)
that doesn't sound like a crazy sandwich.
