I'm asking the same general question I asked on my webpage, right. Okay, so I applied to a couple schools, none of them in NY State, probably not going to get accepted to any of them because there's quite a lot of rubbish in my records right now (honestly this isn't true, I have a 3.01 GPA cumulative on approx. 80 credits which will be higher come May 25th because I am doing very well in my current classes, but I have no SAT scores until May 4th and I only have a GED to show them besides the ASU GPA), plus I've never gone through the process of actually applying to a school before, so it's all new and confusing, I did it for fun (expensive fun, wtf are these application fees?).
So anyhow, that's all coming to a question on if anyone has tips or suggestions for getting me money to go. I just got a note from someone stating that some states don't allow you to start at an institution as a non-resident and then switch to resident later (ie get cheaper tuition), so now I'm wondering if I should plan on exactly which school I'm going to and then just move, get into a community college, and then transfer from there. I mean it's a better idea anyhow because I will only have two semesters of math under my belt by fall, NO science, and I need to do my lower level foreign language so why not do it at the less expensive place...but anyhow, yes, tips please, I feel I will have a hard time getting financial aid at first.
ALSO does anyone know student loan rules? I have one by accident (long story) and you have to start repaying it 6 months after you leave school. So I did that, but now I'm BACK at school - do I have to continue paying or can I be all, hey, yo, I'm at school now, fuck off with your interest?

The long story isn't that long: I kept denying the loans I was
offered thru the financial aid, because I was getting full financial
aid. HOWEVER the office screwed up and gave me both a loan check and
a financial aid check one semester. I told them this was wrong, so
they pointed to where I should take the loan check and then they send
it back, and they wipe it from my record since I didn't cash it. Well
I walked to that door, which was sort of close to the CD store that
the guy I was interested in worked in, so instead I went in there and
proceeded to buy $5000 worth of CDs over the course of the year
(exagerration: I also bought clothes and plane tickets).

Ally: as far as I know, if you go back to school you can put
repayment existing student loans on hold. Beyond that, if finances
are a concern, taking classes at a less expensive institution in the
state where you want to attend school can be a good idea. Just make
sure that the schools you're interested in know you're doing this and
will accept the credits, because there's nothing more aggravating
than spending time and effort on something that your chosen
institution of higher learning won't recognize.
