That is a good shot of Leeds, love those back to backs. Have you got a link to a bigger version? (yes, I want to steal it).

― tomofthenest, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:33 (thirteen years ago) link
Yes, Rochdale, from a different angle the big red mill might have given it away more

― tomofthenest, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:39 (thirteen years ago) link
detroit was the first to come to my mind, but the street's so wide that it looks like the main street of a much smaller midwest town
― del griffith, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:40 (thirteen years ago) link
not detroit (i thought someone might guess there, but it isn't)

― cherry blossom, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:43 (thirteen years ago) link
well i really don't know of any cities there except east saint louis or carbondale and i have a feeling it's neither. probably a small-ish town. i've never been there, i just had a feeling.

― tomofthenest, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:45 (thirteen years ago) link
Haha, I understand the pyramids reference now, but I cheated so I won't give it away.
― tomofthenest, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:47 (thirteen years ago) link

(i'd thought it was sorta...not famous exactly, but well known because of well how it looks!)

ah ok. i wouldn't have guessed from the 100s of possibilities without that clue, but i'm still proud of my ability to guess what part of what state.
― harbl, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:59 (thirteen years ago) link

could say there are sorta similarities in a way between pennine milltowns in the UK and western PA (and parts of WV i guess?)
― cherry blossom, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:05 (thirteen years ago) link
ah I'd picked cairo because I thought it was kind of an extreme example and might be got fairly easily (which it was, i didnt know you could cheat tho - i will be better prepared next time)
― cherry blossom, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:06 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah, it was mostly that and the mix of mountains and fields, but WV looks more forested in my experience driving through
― harbl, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:09 (thirteen years ago) link
is cairo known for something then?
I'd thought it was sorta well known just for being a complete wreck (80% depopulation according to wikipedia)
― cherry blossom, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:14 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah i'm reading the wikipedia now, i didn't know about it! very interesting.
― harbl, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:15 (thirteen years ago) link
there's a couple youtube videos which are pretty good, driving round it. one with an old woman talking about how it used to be before the war, which is great, and one with corny ambient music but does show the almost completely abandoned downtown
