duane, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

You know what i fuckign meant, i know i cannot spell

anthony, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

duane, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i am bitchy , hard day at work . anyhow back to the sexy bivalve thread.

anthony, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

OK I eat 'em, yum. Oysters, mussels, scallops sometimes but those aren't as good as oysters or mussels. But I don't get that stuff about "they're sexy" . Food + sex = GROSS, I already said that.

duane, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

We had mussels today. The black sleek shells . They smell like salt and earth. You crack them, slurp the animal inside and discard the husk . How can that not be sexy.

anthony, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

what is this thread about?

Geoff, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

How bivalves (biĀ·valve (bvlv) n. A mollusk, such as an oyster or a clam, that has a shell consisting of two hinged valves.)

are the sexist food ever. I expect it to provoke discussion concernign food and sex.

anthony, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

yeah esp. the 'discard the husk' part! i always do that after i fuck someone.
geoff - it's about bivalves.

duane, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

work with the metaphor . Be it your semen or a condom or energy after sex you always leave somethign behind.

anthony, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

ohhh - seafood...anthony, you weren't expecting any sexist jokes were you? btw chocolate caffeine beans are an acceptable substitute for sex.

Geoff, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

come on what do you all think
i am looking at you ally

anthony, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I adore seafood but a cannot say that I find it a particular aphrodisiac. Especially not eels, perhaps its the green liquor they come in. And anyone who named them winkles must have had a very small - er - winkle. With a shell on.

Pete, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Never been that fussed by oysters. But Scallops are sea food of the gods, really good with a squid ink sauce. Mussels are great ( beer and chips on the side).

BTW I have no net access at home till aug 23 and I'm in wales for most of that watching all of my culinary plans unravel. So have fun without me.

Ed, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Squid ink sauce?! I never heard of such a thing.

duane, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Bivalves - honestly, what an UNsexy name for a food! It makes me think of plumbing or heart disease or something.

I don't eat any of this stuff, because I don't eat meat or fish.
Olives are a sexy food to me - something about the way that tanginess works its way down your tongue.

What is the longest you have gone without a whelk?

Tom, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I think bivalves are only officially an aphrodisiac for men as they have a lot of zinc which replenishes spunk (or something). Or maybe just for straight men and lesbians as they are supposed to resemble female genitalia. They are only an aphrodisiac for me as they are quite expensive in restaurants so if someone buys them I know they have a bob or two and I am very shallow.

Gooey Dux! I've always wanted to see those things in person. I read about them in a book once... forget which. Think it was a horsey one. Such a girl I am.

Kim, Monday, 30 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Geoduck? Is that like Geodude from Pokemon?

one month passes...
Fresh mussels tonight. Jesus, each of those little things is a senso-surround cartography of taste and texture. I put onions, garlic and lots of olive oil in a big pot and start cooking it down. When it all turns clear (but not brown) I throw in the mussels for a couple of minutes. In goes some dry vermouth and I pop the top on to steam them good for a little while. Take em out with a strainer, add some BUTTER and diced tomatoes to the yummy stuff in the pot which I cook down even further before pouring it all over the mussels' lazy open shells. Served with beet and corn salad and a ton of bread to sop up the juices. Cut to: sloppy grins and cigarettes.

While on vacation out east, I made a point of stopping in Digby Nova Scotia for a scallop lunch. It was so fucking good. *note that I rarely use fucking as an adjective to describe my food, so you know that's just how good it was.

Kim, Monday, 10 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I just ate lunch two hours ago, but reading this thread has made me hungry again.
