everything i know about that's happening nye is live music or other not particularly sociable happenings. i feel like bands for such occasions should be house bands facilitating dancing and goodtimes, not people to be stared at standing still.

NYC on NYE has lots of crazy fetishy burning man bullshit parties which I feel are OK to go to exactly once a year.

One night with the steampunks is fun, two nights with the steampunks and you are playing with yourself

this new years i think i'm gonna get a few happy hour drinks then chill on my couch.

so all you nyers with no plans should hang out with me because i also have no plans and it is *ahem* my birthday and usually i try not to incorporate it into new year's but if no one's doing anything anyway... i should. and so should you.

yeah, afaic the best thing to do in NYC on NYE is stay home (as long as your neighbors aren't louder than you are) or go to a friend's place (as long as it isn't midtown). i suppose it helps that i can see fireworks from home and don't find doing nothing too depressing. i am going to be in California, anyway.

After a few storming years, London also appears to be a bit short on options this year. There's a party somewhere local that isn't wildly appealing but that's about the extent of it.

i'm going to ny for nye too, and the plan is just to hang out at my best friend's apartment (or possibly some other mutual friends') with drinks, being cheap and cliquish.

i was at a nye party in tribeca a few years ago and we were trying to get to one in the village but there were no cab so we started walking and deiced to go to every party we could see from the street and we end up going to like five lol hueg loft parties and it was sort of ridiculous and fun

i know abt a couple parties that im not sure if im psyched abt will prob go to anyway

a lot of people dont like nye cause lol amateur nite - but my philosophy is to just go w/the energy get nuts man

I have a flight at 11am the next day and will have to set my alarm for 6am to make it. If I wasn't living in a terrible NYE town (Oxford = ghost town right now) then I would stay up until the bus comes, but I am so I will probably watch Jools Holland with foreign grad students.

My three best friends are in NYC. They are each from a different crowd, so this is a total coincidence. They're each the kind of person on whom the rest of us depend to organize something good in London or Bristol. This sucks for me, but they will have a magical time in NYC and so will you.

in year 2000 i went to a huge houseparty my friend threw at his parent's place in the country and we had these bonfires on the tennis courts and i tried acid for the first time and the next morning (afternoon) we cooked this huge breakfast and our friend adam played the video he had of the previous nite and was pretty surprised to see i made out with his sister lol no remembered it happening but there it is ON TAPE

Ringing in the New Year at a rest stop in CT after leaving my house for a Boston-NY bus at 10 AM. A tire blew, there seems to be no spare, and we've been waiting four hours. We may get into NY around midnight and I'll get to the party around 1, if we're lucky, hopefully not missing people I wanted to see. Fuck you, Fung Wah.

finally, FINALLY had a new year which was decent. had just an hour in the local, then the rest of the night with friends and fine ale.

Party sucked, terrible music, got stuck in freezing cold nowhere near trains and with no cabs stopping and bus not coming. Finally blew $25 on a car service to go, what, 2 miles?

Kept it local and old-skool this year, it was fun. A few drinks in the pub with friends, then made it to another old school friend's party just before midnight. We fucked up the countdown but apart from that it was a good one, even if I did drink too much of some ridiculous punch and pass out in a ball on the sofa at about 3am. My last memory is putting 'I Like To Move It Move It' on.

Left house for the first time after my surgery (yay); wife drove into a snowbank on the way out of the driveway and had to rely on massive pissed-off neighbor to extricate van (boo); went to party with lots of good food and a couple of good friends (yay); couldn't drink because of Vicodin intake (boo); Vicodin intake (yay); home and doing nothing all day (yay).

Went to friends' place out of town, had good time, left around 3.30am, found some more people who were still up and about, went to their house, stayed up another few hours, had good time, drank a pretty hueg amount and am now more or less incapable of doing anything save for posting to this thread

We kind of fucked up the countdown, but then later we counted down from 10 like 15 more times so that was fun. We found some tunnels in back of the warehouse and shouted down them and then followed them out into a biiiig yard where we looked at the stars for awhile. About 4 or 5 am or so we hung out and played some kind of ridiculous card game we made up as we played in the little carpeted area in the middle of tent village. It was weird to be hungover and breaking down camp indoors this morning. But fun!
