Money's not really an object, tbh.

I just want to do something that will keep my mind off thangz (last year I spent NYE with my now-ex, so u_u to that but I need drinking and fun [and to avoid him, haw]).

HELP

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Saturday, 27 December 2008 04:44 (seventeen years ago)

nyc

mookieproof, Saturday, 27 December 2008 04:49 (seventeen years ago)

Seconded! I need plans.

thieverend (tehresa), Saturday, 27 December 2008 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

I'm flying up to New York to see Lee Curtiss, Ryan Elliott and Wolf + Lamb at the Marcy, so NYC seconded.

Jena (who is actually a man) (Jena), Saturday, 27 December 2008 05:07 (seventeen years ago)

thirded

dmr, Saturday, 27 December 2008 05:15 (seventeen years ago)

Haha, I've spent more time in New York than home this year. Makes sense, I guess. What is NYC like on new Year's? Wonder how cheap I could fly?

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Saturday, 27 December 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

Haha, I know I said money was no object.

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Saturday, 27 December 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

(And it's really not, I'm pretty set now that Xmas is done.)

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Saturday, 27 December 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

nyc is crazy but i have never gone to manhattan on nye, only stayed in brooklyn.

pls to suggest plans for me, tooo!

thieverend (tehresa), Saturday, 27 December 2008 06:29 (seventeen years ago)

everything i know about that's happening nye is live music or other not particularly sociable happenings. i feel like bands for such occasions should be house bands facilitating dancing and goodtimes, not people to be stared at standing still.

schlump, Saturday, 27 December 2008 07:29 (seventeen years ago)

is it so black and white

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Saturday, 27 December 2008 07:38 (seventeen years ago)

is why i'm going to a dance partaaayyy :)

Jena (who is actually a man) (Jena), Saturday, 27 December 2008 07:48 (seventeen years ago)

i'm sure gabbneb will have many fine suggestions for everyone

mookieproof, Saturday, 27 December 2008 07:54 (seventeen years ago)

i've got a suggestion for you

a mountain climber who plays an electric guitar (gabbneb), Saturday, 27 December 2008 08:01 (seventeen years ago)

lol

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Saturday, 27 December 2008 08:06 (seventeen years ago)

If g'neb's suggestion doesn't involve standing round a brazier on the corner of 86th and park, drinking the remains of a disgraced financiers wine collection out of a paper bag, I will be disappointed.

Ed, Saturday, 27 December 2008 09:58 (seventeen years ago)

i dont know why, but i laughed at that

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Saturday, 27 December 2008 09:58 (seventeen years ago)

Come to Helsinki, have a drink with us.

Tuomas, Saturday, 27 December 2008 12:54 (seventeen years ago)

I would do that except I have to fly to nyc on jan 2nd. (Also pack my house into my sister's attic).

Ed, Saturday, 27 December 2008 13:40 (seventeen years ago)

What is NYC like on new Year's?

it's actually kind of a pain in the ass, I'm trying to figure out what to do

dmr, Sunday, 28 December 2008 16:40 (seventeen years ago)

NYC on NYE has lots of crazy fetishy burning man bullshit parties which I feel are OK to go to exactly once a year.

stfujan stevens (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

One night with the steampunks is fun, two nights with the steampunks and you are playing with yourself

stfujan stevens (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

this new years i think i'm gonna get a few happy hour drinks then chill on my couch.

ian, Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

so all you nyers with no plans should hang out with me because i also have no plans and it is *ahem* my birthday and usually i try not to incorporate it into new year's but if no one's doing anything anyway... i should. and so should you.

thieverend (tehresa), Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, afaic the best thing to do in NYC on NYE is stay home (as long as your neighbors aren't louder than you are) or go to a friend's place (as long as it isn't midtown). i suppose it helps that i can see fireworks from home and don't find doing nothing too depressing. i am going to be in California, anyway.

happy bday tza!

a mountain climber who plays an electric guitar (gabbneb), Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

After a few storming years, London also appears to be a bit short on options this year. There's a party somewhere local that isn't wildly appealing but that's about the extent of it.

Matt DC, Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

matt, i am currently ~liaising~ with a-m about our NYE options. am sure there'll be a house party somewhere. also do you have a printer in your house?

lex pretend, Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

if i go to a friends party on the upper east side will it be a pain in the ass to get somewhere fun after i leave

eman cipation s1ocklamation (max), Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)

if you cant find a fun party on the UES than you arent trying imo

delicate mouse tune, crash of cat chords (Lamp), Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:54 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, im definitely not trying to find a party on the ues

eman cipation s1ocklamation (max), Sunday, 28 December 2008 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

too much of a pain in the ass?

delicate mouse tune, crash of cat chords (Lamp), Sunday, 28 December 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

worried ill run into gabbneb

eman cipation s1ocklamation (max), Sunday, 28 December 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

in California?

a mountain climber who plays an electric guitar (gabbneb), Sunday, 28 December 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

yeah have zero nye plans for london, except that I want to get drunk

Local Garda, Sunday, 28 December 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

i'm going to ny for nye too, and the plan is just to hang out at my best friend's apartment (or possibly some other mutual friends') with drinks, being cheap and cliquish.

Maria, Monday, 29 December 2008 01:47 (seventeen years ago)

i was at a nye party in tribeca a few years ago and we were trying to get to one in the village but there were no cab so we started walking and deiced to go to every party we could see from the street and we end up going to like five lol hueg loft parties and it was sort of ridiculous and fun

i know abt a couple parties that im not sure if im psyched abt will prob go to anyway

a lot of people dont like nye cause lol amateur nite - but my philosophy is to just go w/the energy get nuts man

ice cr?m, Monday, 29 December 2008 02:52 (seventeen years ago)

i have low expectations for this NYE :(

i like to fart and i am crazy (gbx), Monday, 29 December 2008 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

i just hope my roommates don't decide to have friends over or something. i want to be able to chill out peacefully.

ian, Monday, 29 December 2008 02:59 (seventeen years ago)

i ain't doing shit

latebloomer, Monday, 29 December 2008 03:03 (seventeen years ago)

So far leaning toward staying in (and have a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge for that purpose) thinking of getting some nice cheese, crackers, olives, bread, etc. But let me know Tza and Dmr and anyone else of other options--isn't DJ DS usually djing some party or other?

Virginia Plain, Monday, 29 December 2008 03:29 (seventeen years ago)

I have a flight at 11am the next day and will have to set my alarm for 6am to make it. If I wasn't living in a terrible NYE town (Oxford = ghost town right now) then I would stay up until the bus comes, but I am so I will probably watch Jools Holland with foreign grad students.

caek, Monday, 29 December 2008 03:34 (seventeen years ago)

so yeah, im coming to nyc

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Monday, 29 December 2008 03:35 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, do that, not the jools holland with the grad students thing

caek, Monday, 29 December 2008 03:35 (seventeen years ago)

o what fresh hell is that, did not read

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Monday, 29 December 2008 03:40 (seventeen years ago)

My three best friends are in NYC. They are each from a different crowd, so this is a total coincidence. They're each the kind of person on whom the rest of us depend to organize something good in London or Bristol. This sucks for me, but they will have a magical time in NYC and so will you.

caek, Monday, 29 December 2008 03:48 (seventeen years ago)

oh man rox, i wouldn't come to NYC if i were you. it's so much warmer where you are.

ian, Monday, 29 December 2008 03:54 (seventeen years ago)

its freezing here too actually

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Monday, 29 December 2008 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

and the social climate is worse

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Monday, 29 December 2008 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

2000 was pretty good. I rang it in doing drugs in some pub with old friends and a new one - a bald irish man named fred who used a cane and gave me a Roddy Doyle book. Good times.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:25 (seventeen years ago)

used a cane?

snoball, Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:26 (seventeen years ago)

if I saw my current nye 5 years ago I think I would be utterly fucking astounded. shame/pride/bewilderment on 25 year old me.

x-post a roddy doyle book, the absolute bollix

Local Garda, Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:26 (seventeen years ago)

i love that 2009 converts to fahrenheit for me

mookieproof, Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

used a cane?

Yeah, a cane! What would you call it - a walking stick? He had leg issues the exact nature of which I am not sure because our friendship was a very brief and very debaucherous one.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:28 (seventeen years ago)

Oh I see, used it to walk with. Rather than hit anyone with.

snoball, Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

It was a crazy night but not quite that nuts. Nobody was whipped - at least not that I'm aware of.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:31 (seventeen years ago)

man thinking about old nye i'm kind of bummed all my best friends are far away so many good times

has μ answers (Lamp), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:32 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, that's one of the reasons we're staying in tonight too. The people we'd most like to celebrate with are all really far away. Those bastards.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:33 (seventeen years ago)

i will celebrate 4 all of u - try to make it a good one - off to my 1st leg momentarily ❤

in year 2000 i went to a huge houseparty my friend threw at his parent's place in the country and we had these bonfires on the tennis courts and i tried acid for the first time and the next morning (afternoon) we cooked this huge breakfast and our friend adam played the video he had of the previous nite and was pretty surprised to see i made out with his sister lol no remembered it happening but there it is ON TAPE

we arent friends any more but because of that

has μ answers (Lamp), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

Have fun Jho!!

OMG that must have been pretty mortifying at the time but it makes for a pretty funny anecdote except for the lost friend part of course.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:39 (seventeen years ago)

oh i meant but NOT because of that yah i get teased about that all the time by old hs friends

has μ answers (Lamp), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:45 (seventeen years ago)

Ok good. In that case that's v v funny!

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:50 (seventeen years ago)

whuh... I've just finished watching Blade Runner 1982 theatrical version. hny all.

DavidM, Thursday, 1 January 2009 01:14 (seventeen years ago)

jesus...left the house for a half hour. glad I'm back. never had an nye where I wanted to be alone as much as this one, and I don't even feel particularly depressed...

Local Garda, Thursday, 1 January 2009 01:16 (seventeen years ago)

Ringing in the New Year at a rest stop in CT after leaving my house for a Boston-NY bus at 10 AM. A tire blew, there seems to be no spare, and we've been waiting four hours. We may get into NY around midnight and I'll get to the party around 1, if we're lucky, hopefully not missing people I wanted to see. Fuck you, Fung Wah.

Maria, Thursday, 1 January 2009 01:41 (seventeen years ago)

finally, FINALLY had a new year which was decent. had just an hour in the local, then the rest of the night with friends and fine ale.

sweet, all the best eye-lick-sores

Ed, Thursday, 1 January 2009 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

Hamburgers, icecream and champagne planned for my NYE. And watching 'Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist'. Oh...and folding the rest of the laundry. Wee.

VegemiteGrrrl, Thursday, 1 January 2009 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

ichard Thompson (Hurting 2), Thursday, 1 January 2009 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

Kept it local and old-skool this year, it was fun. A few drinks in the pub with friends, then made it to another old school friend's party just before midnight. We fucked up the countdown but apart from that it was a good one, even if I did drink too much of some ridiculous punch and pass out in a ball on the sofa at about 3am. My last memory is putting 'I Like To Move It Move It' on.

Matt DC, Thursday, 1 January 2009 17:25 (seventeen years ago)

Dimension 5ive, Thursday, 1 January 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

Went to friends' place out of town, had good time, left around 3.30am, found some more people who were still up and about, went to their house, stayed up another few hours, had good time, drank a pretty hueg amount and am now more or less incapable of doing anything save for posting to this thread

da cryypiä (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 1 January 2009 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

We kind of fucked up the countdown, but then later we counted down from 10 like 15 more times so that was fun. We found some tunnels in back of the warehouse and shouted down them and then followed them out into a biiiig yard where we looked at the stars for awhile. About 4 or 5 am or so we hung out and played some kind of ridiculous card game we made up as we played in the little carpeted area in the middle of tent village. It was weird to be hungover and breaking down camp indoors this morning. But fun!
