I'm going to go for Hugh I think, even tho he's the least practical of any of them.

Local Garda, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

recipe wise my fave is nigel slater by miles and miles but he's not a celeb I guess

Local Garda, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

Ha, how can Hugh F-W be least practical on a list with Heston on it? What's practical about sticking dildos in jelly or sticking tea in liquid nitrogen? All have their merits, tbh, so I'm sitting firmly on the fence here.

ailsa, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

well yeah heston obv impractical but does heston even do "recipes"? I just find Hugh a bit "then you go and pick some radishes from your vegetable garden" or insistent on making some individual ingredient from scratch. also his recipes are expensive...

Local Garda, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

hugh and heston are more "adventures in cooking" than recipe stuff. at least heston now is open about his "don't do this at home" approach. heston and hugh are clearly the nicest chaps here. i go for heston since i tend to lose interest in hugh's show no matter how much i like the man. i'll watch some of river cottage if it's on but i make a point of watching heston.

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

i'll watch a whole nigella for lolz though.

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

nigella is so weird, and the bits about her life are ultra weird.

I agree Hugh and Heston are v nice. Sometimes the whole "let's make an ordinary person feel contrite about the shit they eat" element of Hugh can be a bit much tho.

Local Garda, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:31 (seventeen years ago)

i suspect heston has been a bit of a raver in his day too o_O

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:32 (seventeen years ago)

Heston blatantly likes to party! He makes the most entertaining shows, so I'll probably vote for him. I've got a Jaimie book though, and there's some good stuff in it. Also Delia can come in handy for standards.

We saw Heston at ATP once (Nightmare Before Christmas a couple of years back, the Thurston Moore one). He was so rock and roll he was sitting down up the back during Sonic Youth.

I should point out that Gordon Ramsay is a total fucking spunker, btw. Would still eat all his food though.

ailsa, Sunday, 15 March 2009 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

i was on the verge of including floyd but i reckoned if i went that far back i'd end up having to include fanny craddock.

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 23:06 (seventeen years ago)

by the way the inclusion of rusty lee was a nod to "Terri MacIntyre, Classy Bitch" which you all would be completely unaware of (except possibly ailsa).

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 23:11 (seventeen years ago)

garbled.

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

Nigella Lawson is very hot on her cookbook covers.

LOL!

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

Ha, Terri McIntyre Classy Bitch is ringing some bells of long-forgottenness.

"United we tan, divided we peel."

Rick Stein totally deserves a place in the good guy list.

jed_, Sunday, 15 March 2009 23:37 (seventeen years ago)

Glad to see no Gary Rhodes, the man's a pratt.

My dad ate at one of Ramsay's places, said it was so-so.

God I hate Nigella.

chap, Friday, 20 March 2009 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah I don't think anyone voted for her cookbooks.

Alex in SF, Friday, 20 March 2009 02:44 (seventeen years ago)

three months pass...
three years pass...

how much utterly shite TV is Heston Blumenthal going to get away with making? as someone quite disposed to liking him at one point i can only watch the tv with a kind of slack-jawed awe at how bad and boring and pointless his telly progs are.
