oops.

duane, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

sorry.

duane, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

actual answer - Webdings!

duane, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Tahoma is my favourite font, a bit boring but I like it(hopefully, I've done the html right!)

jel, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I like Palatino for manuscripts and mad old Gill Sans for everything else. Eric Gill = twisted mofo.

suzy, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

tell me more about crazy typographers.

anthony, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I am strangely fond of Tahoma, it has usurped Times NR as my work font of choice. My work emails go out in blue Bookman Old Style. My boss once discovered a new font and spent some minutes trying to capture the essence of what he liked about it and why he would never use another. I think I should get out more.

Emma, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

If it is buisness it is impact because it makes me look butch.

anthony, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Impact is what's known as a "screen font", i.e. ok for PowerPoint presentations and that sort of thing, but not suitable for serious print use. In addition, it should really only be used for headlines, not body text, because it's extremely condensed look makes it fatiguing to read. But use whatever you want.

Sean, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Actually, Impact was used all over Details magazine in the mid-'90s.

suzy, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I think that is why i use it in personal notes. I tend to write in bullets. It looks forceful. Anything more then a paragraph and i become boring. Courier or Abadi .

anthony, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I like Trebuchet and Tahoma. This post will appear in one or the other of those fonts depending on whether you have them installed. Otherwise it will be in the sans-serif default - I like anything delicate looking, but not FRILLY.

Ally, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I have a preference for fonts that I can find when I switch computers. So Times 12, Geneva 9, Monaco 9 (monospaced is the only way to go for email, yo), and I guess Verdana since I found out that it looks less like ass on Windows machines than the other sans serif alternatives. If I go bigger than Times 12 for printed writing (and sometimes I prefer Times 10), sometims I would rather switch to Times New Roman, but usually I just think that makes whatever I printed out look too self-important.

I guess that's why my experiment with futura didn't work on the HTML thread. But I looked it up and it's really cool - sort of like the font they have for learning the alphabet. I've discovered that 11 is the perfect size for Times New Roman.

youn, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I like verdana but I don't know if it worked or not.

Nerd Spork, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Verdana!!!!

Ally, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Zapf dingbats

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Georgia is where it's at for screen-reading. Wuz specifically designed to look good at different sizes at screen- resolution (72 ppi)

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'm one of those Arial bastards. It just has a nice, clean look that I really appreciate.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Verdana & Tahoma are nearly the same font face, I think. You tell me, though - I have my browser's default font set to Tahoma.

Once, it was Arial, but it's almost TOO faceless. Tahoma has more character (pun sorta intended). Tahoma @ 10pt is GRATE. Actually, most fonts @ 10pt look good. Even Times New Roman (which booooores me as much as a font can bore).

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

But shurely sans-serifs = more difficult/slower reading?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Not for me, usually. Of course, I just looked up what the difference between "serif" and "sans-serif" is - it's those lines they place at the bottom of certain letters that differentiates between the fonts. Therefore - Times New Roman and Courier are serif fonts; the other fancy fonts the majority of us like are sans-serif.

They're both equally readable, but I find the sans-serif fonts more aesthetically pleasing. Though, if I'm writing a school paper, I ALWAYS go with Courier New. It's the fluffer of the font world. I love it.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The font world has a fluffer????

OH. Not that type of fluffer. Sorry!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Ah, shit. My Times New Roman tag didn't work, did it? (Or did it?)

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I am hijacking this thread with my font. I love you all, stay beautiful in beautiful font. BWAHAHAHA.

Ally, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Nice try, Ally.

And, actually, Dan, I MEANT that sort of fluffer. I'm a naughty boy. Tee-hee.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

How about I do it real subtle like this?

Ally, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

You are all mentalists on crack: New York is what I read y'alls in and y'alls look considerably more dignified and intelligent that way than the words you use and the thoughts you fumble entirely always merit.

Make it stop, Lord, make it stop!

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

That color scheme would've worked real well a month ago, though.

Now I think I know what Interweb folks mean when someone's typing LOUD. Kee-rist.

Wonder if this'll work...

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Bigger, damn it!

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I SAID BIGGER!!!

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Nah, we want it smaller

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

This will be more annoying in Netscape

bnw, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Will you people stop making a mess of my neat and tidy forum! Or at least tell me how to do silly font-related stuff as well.

DG, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

View the source, DG.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

It just looks insane to me. Please tell me in plain english, in any font that isn't wing/webdings, before someone tries to be funny.

DG, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Signature font? Can you people get any more geeky?

Ally C, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

That should fix it, I hope.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I also like Baskerville Old Face a lot (not gonna try & do any html gunslingin' this time tho', I have learned my lesson).

duane, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

You all should go do a google search on the Holy Bible font. You can find it on Manics sites. That would make this board really super savage if you all load that and I change every thread to Holy Bible.

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I am bored, so I think I'll play with this thread a little bit. Orange is a neat color, don'tcha think?

Dan Perry, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Not as nice as green!

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

'fonts' suck.

typefaces rock.....

ambrose, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Dan, you're quite the cockfarmer with all those open-ended tags.

David Raposa, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

AND the bold tags, too.

David Raposa, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Damn, Dan. Enough with the CTRL-V!

David Raposa, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

CTRL-V is the cockfarmer's FRIEND.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Whee! I'm to the right!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oops, that didn't work. I suck.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Dan Perry, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Where will this end up, I wonder?

(PS DG use <font color="color" face="fontname" size="+/-x"> to modify the font)

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Dan Perry, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Damn, that doesn't work properly...
