I went to Paraguay for a day, over the Argentinian border, to visit what is allegedly the least visited UNESCO site in the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jes%C3%BAs_and_Trinidad_Jesuit_Ruins
The ruins were ok, rendered somewhat eerie by the fact that absolutely no one was there except for me and my two companions. The effect was compounded by the Ballard-esque empty facilities and gift shops. The people we came across on the way to and from the border seemed without exception to be completely lovely, and really excited to see tourists. Massive contrast to the familiarly first world Argentina mere miles away.
