I want to be angry. can I be angry?

a friend of mine has a friend whom she knows I dislike. the first time I ever met this friend the other dude was there and she told me he was a "dickhead." and he is. a couple of days ago I was out with my friend and her friend turned up. see, she likes him now or something. her friend wanted to swop some DISCS with me and I quite wanted two of the DISCS he had and I was a bit drunk so I agreed. now. it seems my friend gave her friend my mobile phone number cuz he sent me two messages today. he sounds even more of a moron in TXT MSG type. truly.

but, the question: can I still be angry with my friend for giving my number to someone she KNOWS I dislike even though I had entered into some sort of non-important, drunken agreement with him?

RJG, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Your friend sounds very foolish. Why does she now think this guy is not a dickhead.

N., Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know. I think she may just be foolish. like you say.

a while back she just started talking of him favourably and when asked "what, the dickhead??" she said he was actually "sweet." seems like she thinks a lot of dickheads are "sweet."

WOW, and she doesn't even appreciate me fully! maybe she's just a really bad judge of character!

RJG, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not so much the changing her mind thing as the fact that it's INCREDIBLY rude to give someone else's phone number out without asking their permission first.

Emma, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that's what I thought+I wanted to be angry, right?

RJG, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And Emma has been doing an etiquette correspondence course so she KNOWS.

Anyway, I agree. And it is probably in breach of the Data Protection Act.

N., Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree but are you sure you don't fancy your friend?

Ronan, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

could I actually get her CONVICTED of something? I just saw her a moment ago and she admitted giving him my number.

she asked me how to spell 'panicking' too.

I DON'T FANCY HER.

RJG, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

KILL HER. Hello Richard.

Ally C, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I want to be that angry.

RJG, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, just go through the drunken agreement and maintain your distance after that.

But also you can always change your number.

Julio Desouza, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't drink and DISC.

i) yes, it is annoying of your friend to give away your mobile phone number
ii) don't stay angry. make it clear to your friend that you would rather she hadn't divulged your number. staying angry and proving a point is not advisable.
iii) do you still wish to trade DISCS with dickhead?

never get behind a black person in a line because they always take fucking forever and they always have a problem. They are also loud as hell and don't care that they fuck things up. They should live on a seperate island somewhere.

jack, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Other note to self: pull out the deck chair and sit right in front of Jack......

Nichole Graham, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You never see a black sportstar thanking his father because he isn't there. It's always a mom and a grandma. Dad's out doin crack. The truth may hurt but that doesn't change the truth.

can I be angry?
That's a question *we* can't answer.

nathalie, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, you can't really be angry. It obviously semed to your friend that you and Dick had bonded. Chalk it up to experience.

I never saw this revival, jeez, a year ago. nick, see this revival.

I am in university and I think I have just realised that it is a review week and I have no lectures. my eye is twitching, is it the milk or the cigarettes?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

Last week I broke up with my boyfriend, nicely and tearfully and with assurances that I would try not to leave him in our horrible apartment to starve by himself, since he's not working and has no income (because he chose to quit his job in December).

He has complained multiple times about how inconvenient it is that I want to move out now, and called me UNFAIR for not taking equal responsibility for the lease that is in his name with his landlords for an apartment I said I would never live in from the first second I saw it, and which I was railroaded into by his multiple strong refusals to consider anything else.

For a year, I have wasted MY time and, more importantly right now, MY MONEY on a lifestyle that I despise, and with someone who is unpleasant, even cruel, on a daily basis, and yet ALWAYS needed someone else to take care of the details and was happy to unload his burdens onto me. He doesn't want a girlfriend, he wants another mother with better nurturing skills and deeper pockets -- and no self-esteem, apparently.

AND I AM RIPPING MAD.

I'm sorry Laurel. This guy has always sounded like a dick to me. Congratulations on doing something about it. It's totally cool if you want to be angry.

Sounds like he deserves every ounce of misery he gets, is barrelling toward it full speed, and I don't think you should protect him from any of it. Congrats on dumpage.

I've been Doing What Nijoli Would Do for a couple of weeks now, with her gracious support. Did you know she and I might for realz be related in some tiny way? Or else at the very least our great-grandmothers quite possibly knew each other. Quite exciting.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Friday, 4 February 2011 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

don't take this the wrong way, laurel, but i am STOKED to read this!!!

he sounded truly terrible from the things you had described before, and while usually in these situations there is always the possibility that there is much more to the story than the negative stuff, it didn't seem like that at all in this case.

i'm really happy for you! sure, it will be super shitty times until you've moved out, found a new place and settled in, then will probably come some nostalgia for the lost relationship, but then will come the euphoria of being free from someone else's misery-inducing behaviour and personality.

the super shitty times won't last forever.

this is good news, laurel, that dude did seem like jerk. you're owning this sitch now. *sends you a 24 pack of budweiser*
