here's the deal: i'm going to a potluck dinner tonight. so far i am competing with a kiwifruit-and-apple crumble and an infamously-delicious pumpkin pie for POTLUCK QUEEN SUPREMACY.

I'm thinking chickpea salad; tell me what other delights i should put in it. Or give me a FABULOUS AND QUICK recipe with CHEAP INGREDIENTS that will leave everyone in AWE of my cullinary SKILLZ!

I'm confused. If it's potluck, how can we help?

Graham, Thursday, 20 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oops. to clarify, i have to make something. and it has to be GOOD. much reputation and prestige is riding on this dinner.

If you're looking for a crown I would pass on the garbanzos. Is this a dairy eatin' crowd? Go for a 7-layer dip type thing: refried beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, etc. . . makes people think they're eating junk food therefore = hit.

pie-ettes.

Sorry that's no help is it? I never cook, I just bring the wine and pre dinner snacks.

rainy is correct, actually. the answer is booze.

jess, Thursday, 20 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and teeny weeny pies.

Num, minipies.

How about a Tart Tart? If you made it with limes it could be a tart tart tart.

felicity, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And if people went out of their way to eat it they could be tart tart tart tarts.

ALthough this doesn't really help - but on a chickpea note, I made a chickpea/potato GOOEY MASH OF STUFF with GARLICK and CREAM and BUERRE (as they say in Franz) and it was BLUDDY SWELL, geezer. And dead easy to cook! It was in a Nigel Slater book! I could eat LOADS OF IT ALL DAY and in fact HAF! Numnumnumnumnumnumnumnumnumnumnumnumnumnumnumn. It does not look very impressive though so it probably does not meet yore NEEDS - I dunno wot you should do but COR chickpeas are nice.

Take a cheese board. Everyone loves cheese and it takes no effort whatsoever.

Hummous is dead-easy and quick if you have a food processor.

Dan Perry, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes and you can use the chick peas. Fresh hummous. MMMrowf!

YUM YUM, you's all making me hungry...next time there's a midwotsit feast YOU'RE ALL INVITED, bring a plate.

i made pretty-coloured chickpea, carrot and kiwifruit salad anyway 'cause it started to rain again and i couldn't be arsed going to the store and getting all wet and squoodgy-feeted.

the POTLUCK QUEEN was my flatmate for her fruit crumble, anyway, cause it was made in a roasting pan THE SIZE OF A CATTLE TROUGH! trounced yet again.
