I have a yellow labrador dog, but have always rather fancied having a black lab instead.
I have bought a box of black hair dye from Boots, and although it says on the label that it hasn't been tested on animals, I am unsure as to whether that means it is also *unsuitable for use* on animals.
I'd be grateful for any advice you may be able to give me. Quite quickly, if you would. Dog is already in the bath, and the water is cooling rapidly. He has a short attention span, and I'm having difficulty keeping him entertained.
Thanks!

I want to change his colour, not give him a 1970s perm

Please don't shout. You have temporarily deafened me.

i'm quite sure you're joking so I won't dignify this with a serious
response.

maybe next time you could use masking tape and give it zebra stripes - that would look very cool

er, no do not dye your dogs fur.

Hmmm......OK. Have abandoned hair dye option. I'm thinking more
along the lines of painting the dog now - I've found some cans of
spray paint as used to touch-up car bodywork. It doesn't
specifically say this can't be used on a dog, so I'm guessing this
will be all right. The paint is for a Rover, after all.
Thanks for your help

fifteen years pass...
my dog was just diagnosed with hip dysplasia yesterday. she's 3 years old, and seems like a black lab in appearance and temperament, although we don't know for sure (she was shelter pup with unknown origins).
all her life, she has been obsessed with playing ball. chasing the ball, bringing it back, jumping and catching it in the air. she absolutely loves it. she ignores all other dogs in social situations. she just wants to play ball. and now, heartbreakingly, i realize that i only made her condition worse by indulging her in this since jumping for a ball puts undue strain on the joints. :( i feel awful because now i see that what i thought was just a cute doggy butt-wiggle when she ran was actually symptoms of her condition, and today i noticed that she was bunny-hopping and realized that maybe she's been doing that for a long time and i never noticed or connected the dots.
have any of you had a dog with a similar condition, particularly a younger dog that's still really active? i don't know what to do. we go to the park, i let her off leash and she automatically starts sprinting, expecting me to throw a ball somewhere. then she stops 20 feet away and just looks at me, like "come on! throw it!". it's insanely cute and heartbreaking. she likes some other activities like rope toys, but tbh she just kind of gets bored after a few minutes. she wants to play some goddamn ball, and can't. i can take her to the lake to go swimming a few days a week, but that won't work once it starts to get too cold.
any tips? i knew that at some point in her life she'd become less active and be happy just trotting beside me on walks, but right now it just feels like i'm telling a little kid that she has to quit the basketball team and join a group of elderly morning mall walkers instead.

Rolling the ball so she doesn't have to jump + picking it up by lowering her head = only bending the front legs
