Anthony:

Andrew Lang's Little Fairy Book is on-line.

No illustrations, though :-(

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

there are some illustrations of fairytales by Ford (and other fairy tale illustrators, Crane amongst others) on surlalune.tripod.com/illustration but they're nothing compare to this selection which is really great: YES the labyrinth of despair!

Are these your own scans? We want MORE !

try here

from 1889, andrew lang collected i think 12 "fairy books", the blue fairy book, the red fairy book, the yellow fairy book, etc, featuring tales of all lands... Many were illustrated by H. J. Ford, about whom I know NOTHING ELSE even though I want to know more. Because he/she is utterly terrific. The stories are pretty variable (lang adapted them all himself): some are fine, others quite pedantic and tiresome.

there are two more — probably my favourites, actually — on WHO'S UP RIGHT NOW? the witch made duane say "yikes"

the s stands for strangely shaped sexuality?

but, did it really shape your X? you now want X with sadistic preraphaelite fairies?

erik, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you now want X with sadistic preraphaelite fairies?

Now, there's a classic question! But will Mark admit to it?

this is the most delightful thread ever, and it's all c.s. lewis's fault!

one year passes...
The book I had looked much like this but the plates were all FULL COLOR and that was part of what made it terrifying for me: the rosy cheeks of the giant's wife, the redness on the tip of the witch's nose: rose-red pink-fleshed ppl EVERYWHERE so much RED and PINK yes these books did make pervs of us all
