We all know you're after Laban, anthony.

matthew m., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am so a Nephi Boy. Are/Were you LDS Matthew?

anthony, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No... missionaries came and visited my house when I was young, and I loved the cartoon version of the book of Mormon. Later, I dated an LDS boy... it's pretty crazy in there. It's like a corporation (or a cult, depending on how cynical you are).

And they're all uncut.

matthew m., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well the ones that i fucked were cut

anthony, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it all sounds very Gerard Reve to me...a shame he has hardly been translated...he would have had a hardon hearing about fucking missionary boys...he's a sort of Firbank from zHell

erik, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

George from the Famous Five was my inspiration. I tried very hard to insist on everyone calling me George, but to no avail.

toraneko, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yes, I'd forgotten all about the bible ones - i used to love colouring in the desturction of sodom and gomorrah with great bold purple and red stripes - ah...and of course this one, something definitely gorgeous in the man leading the naked youth to the slaughter and then rescuing him...burning bush indeed

Queen Don't you point those squiggly things at G, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't realize there was more to that series of Mormon illustrations, I've only ever seen the eight in the current edition. They certainly are very manly men.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There are twelve, I just could not find them. They are by an artist called Arnold Friberg

anthony, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony, circumscision is against their religion (Revelation to Joseph Smith: Hiram, Ohio, Jan 1832). Are you sure you weren't with a bunch of converts?

matthew m., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

For me it was the drawings of Charles Dana Gibson -- probably because they were sympathetic images of tall, strong women, who were clearly appreciated by the men of their milieu.

j.lu, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think that Utah Mormons and thier ilk are uncut. Converts and the Sons of Converts often arent.

anthony, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, also Moroni 8:8, but that's less straightforward 'cuz it's scripture.

matthew m., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

those are beautiful!

there's a big mormon pageant in upstate new york this summer, called the hill cumorah pageant. i've got two friends working at it and they keep telling me i should go see. one of them is an apparently completely asexual mormon boy.

Maria, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That means he's gay and fears being shunned, I'd wager.

matthew m., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

specifically, this nude photo of neriah davis when a friend printed it out for me some time in middle school. Previously I had a black and white picture of her crumpled in my pocket that the same friend gave me.

I watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit the other day, and yes, Jessica Rabbit is kinda ridiculous. I have no idea how that didn't impress itself on me as a child.

nabisco, Monday, 5 January 2009 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

Because you were too busy looking at Rue McClanahan?

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Monday, 5 January 2009 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

That show was like 30% jokes about Blanche being slutty -- when you're 9 such things seem mysterious and compelling.

nabisco, Monday, 5 January 2009 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

I have a specific memory of some kind of joke about getting tied up, and sitting there thinking, you know ... is that something people do? People I've met who are Blanche's age? Like Mrs. Fletcher down the road?

Not Erin Gray, but a lot of pervy surrealism from late-70s sci-fi:

But yeah, all the barbarian stuff too.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 00:42 (seventeen years ago)

all those hairy drawings in the original joy of sex, for one thing. (surreptitiously lifted from my parents' bookshelf.) i was nostalgically sorry to hear they've been replaced by clean-scrubbed models in the new one. also, i was 13 or 14 when this came out so i guess it didn't shape my sexuality exactly but let's say it confirmed it:

(and i reflexively hated madonna at the time, so i was sort of embarrassed by thinking she was hot. but ... the bellybutton!)

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 00:52 (seventeen years ago)

First women I've ever had dirty thoughts about were the women in the old Benny Hill show.

redmond, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

in other madonna-related developments, i got embarrassingly snapped at by a store employee at a mall bookstore for sneaking a penthouse magazine down off the "adults only" shelf to peek at the madonna nudie photos. seemed totally worth it, even though the photos aren't all that sexy -- just the idea that she was naked.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

Not this image, per se, but Louise Jameson's Leela on late Saturday night public broadcast of Dr. Who is the first character/person I can recall feeling aroused by.
