My FIFA Fix Nutjob theory: No one paid the judge, but someone piad the Germans, who were making a good job of missing until Ballack received the yellow card. Realising he wouldn't be able to play in the final, Ballack did a German Gazza and cried inwardly, vowing to go against orders and SCORE A GOAL, which he subsequently did. Conclusive proof: the players didn't all jump on top of Ballack or do a funny dance by the corner flag.

I admit that there is one particulalry glaring hole in this theory, but I'm sticking to it.

My faith in Turkey is still devout.

You can't really begrudge Germany on that performance, they were a ruthlessly efficient Panzer division, etc, and you can never rule them out, etc.

I'm beginning to develop a fondness for the German team. They are increasingly playing exactly the kind of grinding, effective, football-without-a-smile-on-it's-face which appeals to me.

Still can't get past the fact that Oliver Kahn looks like a Buffy vampire post-transformation, though.

After adopting Senegalese nationalist on the first day of the World Cup, I've decided to become German now. It's... fucking hilarious to be honest. The German national team are like one big 70s sitcom, and it's all gearing up for the happy ending. Plus the fact that their winning of the world cup will piss off every humourless bastard in the corner of a pub ever (and Jeremy Paxman, bizzarely, if you saw Newsnight)... Germany ROCK!
