What's the most advanced math course you've taken or recall taking?

(Currently in Discrete Math, with more linear algebra beckoning.)

non-euclidean geometry!!

mark s, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

probably the most difficult was general relativity.

GCSE! But I did some statistics, equations and accountancy courses at university, but they were much enjoyable.

I'm not a maths person.

er, pre-calc. in high school. And I didn't do very well in that.

CSYS Maths.

Can someone do me a favour. My work won't let me access this. Will someone access it and send me what it says in an e-mail to:

[email protected]

Here's the site: http://www.fraw.org.uk/archive/ehippies/papers/op5.html

Thanks.

I did a master's degree (but didn't finish my thesis so I didn't get it, doh). At that level it's all kind of the same 'level' but I found combinatorics tough just because it called for a way of doing proofs I'm no good at.

precalc, but next year i have to take calculus. not looking forward to it.

I did one term of a maths degree at Cambridge. That all seemed to be the fundamentals, as derived from set theory. I don't remember much of it, or even much of the calculus at A level before it. And there was a bit of maths on the computer degree I did later, but that was extremely easy stuff, I thought. I was always one of those people who found maths very easy, but I don't have anything like deep knowledge of it.

This past Spring, I sandwiched myself between Discrete Math AND Calculus II. Both turned out to be pretty easy classes, though, once I figured out what I needed to learn (as opposed to distracting myself with all the weird symbols and theorizing and blah blah blah).

Those might be the last Math classes I take. You won't hear me crying.

for exam purposes i guess cambridge part iii (which is like a taught ma. at least that's what they claim), and hardest course wd be advanced algebraic geometry. for non-exam purposes the course in shimura varieties that i went to this year. that really hurt my brain.

MAthematics for engineers 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b. Basically advanced calculus and numerical methods, some advanced algebraic techniques, but mainly everything there is to know about integral and differential calculus. No proof required just methods.

Differential equations

Kris, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Multivariate calc, discrete maths, and differential calc. also via computer sciences some further pursuit of algorithmic discrete thangs like reduction proofs.

Can't remember but there's lots of Calc & Lin Al books on my bookshelf so it was probably something horrible like that. Oh, and I did Engineering Maths one year.

toraneko, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

gcse and that was enough, I hated maths with a passion that knew no bounds.

chris, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Course level wise Simulation and Modelling was on paper a 3rd year but it was a joke course, mostly intro stats. Hardest personally was quantum mechanics, I had a hard time getting my heard around Hilbert space and Hermtiean operators and had to work my ass off to catch up once I did. Hell I can't even spell them anymore.

Mr Noodles, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

3rd year university level. At that point it becomes no fun at all.

Ally C, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AP Calculus...after that I went into a bit of a decline.
