What is the purpose of this thread? To answer our own questions.

What am I talking about? When interviewees subvert the role of the interview by asking themselves the questions and then answering them while the interviewer politely nods.

Why do people do this? So they can transform a potentially difficult interview into a personal youtube video blog.

Who tends to do this? Everyone from politicians to Karl Malone.

How long have people been doing this? Probably since the dawn of time, 6000 years ago. I imagine that the unabridged version of Genesis would go "Then God said 'What shall I do on this boring weeknight? Let there be light', and so it was."

Do I appreciate this thread? Yes, I do.

Would it be slightly improved by throwing in random pictures of bored interviewers drinking coffee? Perhaps, but I'm having trouble locating CouricDrinkingCoffeeOnSet.jpg.

Would I like to face some hard-hitting questions that could damage my reputation if answered truthfully? No, I would not.

Has answering your own question always been so common during interviews, or is it a relatively modern phenomenon? I don't know the answer, leave me alone, sheesh.

Did it cross my mind that it would be difficult to sustain any sort of participation on this thread because everyone would just be raising and then answering their own questions rather than interacting with anyone else? Why no, no it did not.

But don't you think it gives us good opportunities to respond to each other anyway? For example, to answer Z S's question, no, answering your own question is not a modern phenomenon, I think Cicero or some other Roman lawyers were pretty into it.
