I reckon I've been blocked from accessing greenspun at work. I'm actually working at home (ha!) today and when I try to get in via the server at work I can't get on. This happened at work on Wednesday too, so it's not just my connection here.

When I connect via my *home* set-up like now, I'm OK.

Anyone know if there's any ducking and diving I can do to get in via another route, or will I have to do *real* work from now on?

I doubt they'll tell me that they've blocked access - they probably don't know who it is - or could it be set-up automatically?

have you tried hv.greenspun.com as well as www.greenspun.com and just greenspun.com?

you could try the IPs too:
65.105.99.l20 (www/greenspun.com) and 64.105.99.121 (hv)
could just be a DNS problem

Thanks Gareth, I'll give it a shot this afternoon. If they've just blocked the www address it should work. How does blocking work anyway. Does it look for keywords or just a specific address?

Dr. C, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

can be either, depends on the programme

keywords is often automatic: a machine reads "most unacceptable thing to come out yr ass" and KER-CHING blocks it; addresses is selected by a human

**addresses is selected by a human**

That rules out any of the sad sacks in our IT dept then.
