i'd always heard about this but never had it happen. today i got a flyer on my front gate about some curb painters who were gonna be around tomorrow -- no word on the flyer about being part of the bureau of street services or having a city contract or anything, only that they were asking for "donations" for unnamed charities. very dodgy. the stipulation is that you have to circle "no" if you don't want the work done, but of course they leave the notices on the friday of memorial day weekend, when everyone's leaving town.
